    Can't Open CC project file in CS6

    spook30 Community Member

      ive read a lot of discussion threads here about this issue, but im still not able to export my CC sequences/project to CS6. ive had to revert back to CS6 cause i cant pay the monthly fee anymore(due to tight budget) i have 2 current projects that im currently working on and need to get them finished. ive tried to export both project to .AAF and Final Cut Pro XML with still no luck.

      when i try to export them to Final Cut Pro XML here the message I get: http://imgur.com/MZp8KD2

      then it flashes (not responding) and crashes CS6.

      when i tried to export them to .AAF i get a file import failure window with an error message saying "This project contained a sequence that could not be opened. No sequence preview preset file or codec could be associated with this sequence."

      Yes i understand that CC isnt backward comaptible with CS6. i just want to know what my options are far as getting these projects to work in CS6 or another way to get them to work.

      i am a student and work in CS6 at school so its better for me to work in CS6 anyways and need these files match so i dont loose the work from school either. my instructor doesnt know what to do about this either and he done some research on this issue.

      please help!

          Despite lack of an official backward compatibility you can open PrPro CC .prproj file in PrPro CS6 (with little help from PrPro CS5 or CS5.5) using the following trick (which works much better than exporting FCP XML, 'cos it preserves all effects and even Dynamic Links):

          - since CC .prproj file is gzipped XML document, you can open it up in an archiver like 7z, WinRAR etc.: add .gz file extension to the file and extract the content;

          - open up the extracted .prproj file in any script editor or a text editor (preferably one, which respects formatting, but doesn't add its own formatting to the text);

          - in the fourth line replace Version="26" with the Version="25":

          <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

          <PremiereData Version="3">

              <Project ObjectRef="1"/>

              <Project ObjectID="1" ClassID="62ad66dd-0dcd-42da-a660-6d8fbde94876" Version="25">

          Since new features in user interface were introduced in PrPro CC, PrPro CS6 may not properly interpret them and crash. Then use good old trick of importing a project into a project: create a brand new project in PrPro CS6 and import your ex-CC project into it. If that doesn't help, rename Version="26" in your unzipped CC project to Version="24" or Version="23" and open it up in PrPro CS5.5 or PrPro CS5 first.

          Do not hesitate using Forum search prior to starting your own thread - it is likely your question was already asked, things under the hood explained and workarounds presented. E.g. entering the title of your thread into the search field brings this discussion with exactly the same title.

          P.S. If you need PrPro CS5 or CS5.5 to finish the job, you can download trial version from here (scroll the webpage down to find appropriate version). Meanwhile, I for some reason believe that importing ex-CC project into brand new CS6 project should resolve the issue at first place with no need to open project in CS5 or CS5.5.

            no none of these solutions worked for me.

            -zipped up the project fine to .gz extention and extracted it without any issues

            -installed notepad++ and edited the project fine and without issues

            -replaced  'version="26" with version="25" and saved the file without any issues.

            -installed PPro 5.5 and 5.0 (trials) without any issues.

            -replaced  'version="26" with version="24" and version="23" and saved the file without any issues.

            -each time i opened up the project file in PPro in CS6, CS5.5, CS5 and selected the "import entire project" still gives me the same error

            -each time i opened up the project file in PPro in CS6, CS5.5, CS5 and selected the "import selected sequences" starts to connect to dymanic link and begins to load something, but thats about as far as i get. ive let it sit for over an hour each time to let it complete what its trying to do and still to no effect it doesnt do anything.

            i understand what you mean by this and undrstand why you would say this, but i didnt have time to search through 100 different disscussions and 100 different post in each disscussion to sift for the working answer. you should understand that some peoples time is precious and need a quick answer and have to do other things in their lives besides read for 3 hours on message boards. im not trying to be mean here, im trying to help you understand what i have going on and i vaule my time as i do yours. thank you for understand me about that and thanks for trying the help me out, but im still stuck without a solution at this point.

              Workaround described above works fine for quite a few people here in the Forum, both who tested the technique for the sake of curiosity and came up with the actual need to downconvert real life CC project. However, you should understand, that Forum contributors' time is precious: they are on their own schedule here and they have other things to do in their lives besides providing countless times exactly the same step by step instructions for exactly the same question asked by someone <unwilling to expend the time and effort to help solve their own problem>, troubleshooting someone's issues with either the understanding instructions given, ability to clearly describe what error message they got or something else. I'm not trying to be mean, I'm trying to help you understand that other people value their time not less than you value your couple of minutes required to find a viable solution via simple search. Thank you for understanding and good luck with your stucking without a solution at this point.

                "This project contained a sequence that could not be opened. No sequence preview preset file or codec could be associated with this sequence."

                FAQ: Why are some codecs and sequence presets missing from my installation of Premiere Pro?
