Browse sequence errors

I would like to have a browse sequence that simply follows the TOC, but when I use "Autogenerate using TOC", it doesn't override whatever is there, but I want it to start fresh. Is there a way to clear the whole browse sequence as currently defined?

Concerning the earlier discussions about whether to have a browse sequence at all, I think of it like flipping through a book-- it lets the user move through topics quickly if he's looking for something. I don't try to provide alternative sequences.

Highlight the first item and then put some sticky tape on the Delete key.

I tried that, but some topics still jump to odd places, not in TOC order. I seem to remember there was a way to add a "next" property to a topic, which I might have used, but I can't find it now. Does such a thing exist, or is my memory faulty?

How can it jump to anything if there is no browse sequence? Your question was how to delete the whole sequence.

Sorry, the problem evolved a little and I was unclear. As it stands, even when I delete the existing sequence, something is still overriding any new auto-generated sequence. These effects were what prompted my original question.

The only thing I can think of right now is that your TOC has topics in it twice and that is confusing the sequence. If that is not it, can you be more specific about what goes wrong?

There are quite a few sequence errors, but one sticks out. The first topic within one of the TOC folders skips to the first topic of the next folder rather than the actual next topic. Each of these folders is set so that clicking the folder opens the first topic, but deleting those links didn't help. This may be caused by some earlier attempt to refine the order, but I can't find a setting for it.

If you're familiar with MS Access and the RH projectname.cpd database structure, you might find a particular table where browse sequences are stored. Maybe RH has gotten it confused (my preferred term for data corruption), and it needs to be cleared out. I haven't fiddled with browse sequences in the .cpd, but we know how to clear up several other problems there.

Do this with the project closed.

Hi all

The Browse Sequence is normally found in a simple ASCII text file bearing the name of the project with a .BRS file extension. One should be able to delete that file to effectively banish any remnant of a Browse Sequence.

Question: Do you have any redirect topics configured? I'm wondering if this would factor into things.

Also, regarding the "automatic next button". There is an option that can be enabled that allows walking the TOC structure. But I think this only applies to compiled .CHM output.

Cheers... Rick
