    Multi Monitor Problem

    flbreen Community Member

Using a PC Windows 8 with EVGA GeForce GTX 680.

I do my Pr editing with 1 monitor  but I was experimenting by connection a hmdi cable from my 680 to a TV monitor and I got good results showing the Pr Program: (window) on the TV screen.

The TV monitor was my #2 screen.

The problem occurs when for some reason the Program: (window) covers my #1 screen making it impossible to operate Pr.

What settins do I need to keep the Program window off of my main screen?

It won't do much good to put the Program Monitor on the second screen.  Doing so, you still have the software, the OS and the graphics driver handling and possibly interfering with the video signal.  You need to set things up in such a way that Windows and the GPU have no idea that second monitor is there, so that when PP, After Effects or some other Adobe program isn't sending out a video signal to it, all you see is black.

I don't know if that's possible using just a graphics card.

It seems to be working better now but what concerns me is that the video driver and PP have the monitor numbers reversed.

I still have the problem and it is a show stopper.

The problem is that everything is set up and working well.

The program monitor is on the upper screen connected by an HDMI cable and the lower  (main) screen has the PP editing workspace connected to a DVI cable.

After a while of editing the Program Monitor takes over both screens and I cannot get if off of the main screen which is Adobe Monitor 1 in the PP Playback menu and Display #2 on the Control panel.

My solution is to unplug the HMDI cable and go back to 1 monitor.

Uncheck the Samsung display in the Playback settings in the Pref.

                  Jim,

Probably would be helpful if you could quickly list how to set-up so that as you suggest, "when PP, After Effects or some other Adobe program isn't sending out a video signal to it, all you see is black.", can be accomplished in the way you do this. I've read through the tweakers page ... but if you could put it in short direct language, I think some here would get a much better idea of their "optimal" set-up.

I unchecked the Samsung display and I have not had the problem since
