1. Re: FR: Direct selection/manipulation of clip(s) in Program Monitor
Steven L. Gotz Feb 20, 2014 6:52 AM (in response to PierreLouisBeranek)It sounds good, but I am not certain how they could implement this. What if the titles had more than text? And what if there were images with alpha channels?
Perhaps a better solution would be a shortcut for selecting the Motion effect without actually having to click on it? That way you could select the clip, use the shortcut and then move it a bit faster, but not have the multiple track issues?

2. Re: FR: Direct selection/manipulation of clip(s) in Program Monitor
PierreLouisBeranek Feb 20, 2014 10:08 AM (in response to Steven L. Gotz)Hi Steven,
If the title has more than text, I would simply expect the clickable area of the title (i.e. it's bounding box) to be set to the outermost edges of any visible 'stuff' in the title, whatever that stuff may be, text or graphics, shadow, etc.
Hopefully this makes sense.
Perhaps at the very least, we could enable Motion editing of a clip in the Program Monitor in 1 step, by selecting it in the Timeline, vs the current 2 steps: 1 select in Timeline, 2 click on Motion in ECW.
Another thing that should be fixed is that anytime a selected clip isn't under the CTI, the ECW shouldn't allow that clip's settings to be modified by mistake. After all, why would you ever want to change a clip's position/scale/rotation, when you can't even see that clip in the Program Monitor? Doesn't make sense.

3. Re: FR: Direct selection/manipulation of clip(s) in Program Monitor
Ann Bens Feb 20, 2014 10:18 AM (in response to PierreLouisBeranek)2) click on 'Motion' in the Effect Controls Window.
Top clip can be selected by double clicking in the PM.
If the undelaying clip is visuable and not covered by the bounding box of the superimposed clip (like in pips) you can double click on that also in the PM to get the bounding box.

I think that would probably be the better ask. For some reason I thought we already had it, and was surprised to see I still have to select the Motion effect to get the bounding box.

6. Re: FR: Direct selection/manipulation of clip(s) in Program Monitor
PierreLouisBeranek Feb 20, 2014 10:53 AM (in response to JSS1138)Well, I stand corrected, and quite gladly so! Double-clicking a clip in the Timeline opens it up in the Source Monitor, something I do from time to time. Because of this, I never tried double clicking a clip in the Program Monitor, thinking it would simply open up the clip in the Source Monitor as well!
Glad to know the much easier method I suggest already exists! Now on to part 2 of my FR, being able to select and modify more than 1 clip at a time.

7. Re: FR: Direct selection/manipulation of clip(s) in Program Monitor
Ann Bens Feb 20, 2014 3:48 PM (in response to PierreLouisBeranek)modify more than 1 clip at a time.
For a clip to be modified you need the Effect Controls.
For 2 clips you need two EC, but there is only just one available.
What if the two clips have total different fixed effect properties to start with.

8. Re: FR: Direct selection/manipulation of clip(s) in Program Monitor
PierreLouisBeranek Feb 20, 2014 6:57 PM (in response to Ann Bens)What to you mean by 'total different fixed effect properties' Ann?
Modifying the selected clips in the Program Monitor would automatically update each clip's position/scale/rotation values independently. No need for more than one ECW as you imply.
So if
Clip 1 = X:960 Y:200 and
Clip 2 = X:500 Y:400,
moving both clips to the right 50 pixels together would result in
Clip 1 = X:1010 Y:200 and
Clip 2 = X:5050 Y:400
Same with scale. Example
Clip 1 = 25
Clip 2 = 50
doubling the size of the clips in the Program Monitor would result in
Clip 1 = 50
Clip 2 = 100
While 2 or more clips are being modified in Program Monitor, any Motion values that are not identical between all selected clips could be displayed as '-', meaning different values are present. Inputing a number value would automatically add that value to all selected clips.
For example, Scale:
Clip 1 = 35
Clip 2 = 42
Clip 3 = 12
ECW value displayed as '-'. Type 50 into this field and all three selected clips would automatically be given an identical scale value of 50.
Hope this makes sense.

9. Re: FR: Direct selection/manipulation of clip(s) in Program Monitor
shooternz Feb 20, 2014 8:01 PM (in response to PierreLouisBeranek)The current workflow is convoluted/unintuitive since it requires users to: 1) select a single clip for modification under the CTI in the Timeline, 2) click on 'Motion' in the Effect Controls Window. 3) make the desired Motion changes in the ECW and/or Program Monitor. 4) repeat steps 1-3 for any additional clips/titles in the Program Monitor that needed to be changed in tandem.
Make Motion changes> Copy Motion> Paste to FX Control WIndow of any other selected clips.

10. Re: FR: Direct selection/manipulation of clip(s) in Program Monitor
PierreLouisBeranek Feb 21, 2014 4:02 AM (in response to shooternz)That would never work shooternz unless you want the exact same Motion settings (position, scale, rotation, etc) applied to all selected clips. So unless you want 4 PIPs of identical size, all neatly stacked up one above the other, so that you can only see the topmost layer, your suggestion doesn't work.

11. Re: FR: Direct selection/manipulation of clip(s) in Program Monitor
Ann Bens Feb 21, 2014 4:03 AM (in response to PierreLouisBeranek)For example, Scale:
Clip 1 = 35
Clip 2 = 42
Clip 3 = 12
ECW value displayed as '-'. Type 50 into this field and all three selected clips would automatically be given an identical scale value of 50.
If you do what Craig says all properties would end up the same for all clips.
Do I understand correct you want to change just one propertie for mulitple clips.

12. Re: FR: Direct selection/manipulation of clip(s) in Program Monitor
PierreLouisBeranek Feb 21, 2014 4:21 AM (in response to Ann Bens)Precisely Ann. What I suggest would allow you to change any single individual Motion parameter for 2 or more clips at once while leaving their other parameters unchanged. Thus, you could change the X position of 4 pips at the same time, while preserving their various Y, scale and rotation values, and vice versa.
Best of all, you could do this 2 ways:
Absolutely (value set in ECW) = X for all clips set to same value (e.g. X = 960)
Relatively (clips directly manipulated in Program Monitor) = X changed by same amount for all clips e.g.
Clip 1 X=100, + 50 = 150
Clip 2 X=250, + 50 = 300
Clip 3 X=960, + 50 = 1010
etc.
Who's Craig?

Ann Bens Feb 21, 2014 5:59 AM (in response to PierreLouisBeranek)Who's Craig?
Shooternz.
I think you will have to file a FR.
There is also the ability to move a clip in the PM with the left/right/up/down arrow key
If you hold the shift+left/right/up/down it moves per 10 increments.

14. Re: FR: Direct selection/manipulation of clip(s) in Program Monitor
Steven L. Gotz Feb 21, 2014 6:06 AM (in response to PierreLouisBeranek)So, if I understand correctly, you are proposing that we be able to select multiple clips by directly clicking on them (or perhaps by selecting the clips in the timeline as well) and directly manipulate the position parameters.
Makes sense. Add to that, if you want to change a different parameter, perhaps one harder to directly manupulate, the Effect Controls Window would allow you to manipulate the parameters for the entire group.
I can see how that might work with percentage changes. you would not want a scale parameter to change them all to be the same, but you might want to have the parameters change by the same percentage.
Interesting ideas. I think that by the time it gets that complicated, I have already moved over to After Effects.

shooternz Feb 21, 2014 4:17 PM (in response to Steven L. Gotz)think that by the time it gets that complicated, I have already moved over to After Effects.
Thats my thinking too.
I tried to think of a situation where I might need to do this in PPRO. Not often if ever. ( Not to say that others might have need though)
I regularly move graphics to different positions and realign them with each other ...but thats no biggie and would often require some or one of them to require a unique parameter change of its own anyway.
I would consider a NEST for something where I knew it would be a solution to something required. eg key framed moving co ordinated PnPs
BUT AEFX for serious Composition work.
Unless the requirement is co ordinated events relative to each other...I cant see it being much regular value or worth the programming effort.
