Closing Internet Explorer while downloading/installing

How do you install/download Flash Player when the installation prompts you to close Internet Explorer, which is the program you are using to download the program??  Doesn't make sense and very frustrating.  I have tried installing with and without Google Chrome add on.  HELP!
