1. Re: How to keep color when switching from RGB to Indexed Color Mode?
csuebele Mar 7, 2014 7:50 PM (in response to soloalpinist)It sounds like your ACT file just has grayscale colors in it. Have you looked to see what the colors are? The ACT is just a color lookup table, so whatever colors were defined in that table will change you image to just those colors.

soloalpinist Mar 7, 2014 9:36 PM (in response to csuebele)The .act file comes up with a number of colors... could the problem be that I'm using a color not suported by the .act?
If so... how do I determine if a color will work when I'm originally creating the photoshop project?

3. Re: How to keep color when switching from RGB to Indexed Color Mode?
csuebele Mar 8, 2014 2:32 AM (in response to soloalpinist)Yes, the colors in you image will be converted to the closest color that are in your color table, and if those happen to be gray, then you will lose the color. I don't use index color that often, but I will create my own table and sample the colors that I know I want in the indexed color. can you post a screen shot of your image, the color table that you're using, and the settings on the indexed color UI?

5. Re: How to keep color when switching from RGB to Indexed Color Mode?
csuebele Mar 8, 2014 8:04 AM (in response to soloalpinist)I think in this case, your lines are just closer to the gray colors in your table than the blue colors. You might want to try sample and add those blue colors to the color table if you want to keep them. I tried to extract the color from your screen shots, and it did convert them to the gray colors.

Cheers!
