why on earth would Adobe allow there to be devices to be non compatable with flash players rendering tablets and other devices unusable and not able to use so many applications. to what advantage is there in not making all devices compatable???

Well, basically because Adobe runs Adobe... not Google or Amazon, or Verizon, or Sprint, or Samsung, or Apple.

The desicion to make iOS devices (iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch) incompatible with Flash was made eight years ago last month. It hasn't changed in all that time and it never will. When Android was first released it WAS compatible, and Adobe developed & updated Flash Player for it. However, in 2012, citing the same reasons Apple gave in 2006, Android announced that it was ending compatibility with and support for Flash. That reason, as Steve Jobs put it, was "Playing Flash content is very processor consumptive and it drains batteries in mobile devices, thereby shortening the life of the batteries."

The W3C, who set and maintain web standards for design and development have set the standard to HTML5, for video. That means MP4, OGG, WebM, and M4V, which is a "flash like" video format that will play in Flash Player, but is also compatible with non-flash browsers. Since the standards aren't mandated, not everyone will comply right away. The way it works is: The standard is set. The industry begins compliance (browser developers update code, and major sites like Google, Yahoo, Bing, Facebook, news sites and entertainment sites all adopt the standard in their code). The webmasters who DON'T comply will see less and less visitors as people with mobile devices become a larger market share of web users, since their content is inaccessible. Eventually, they either update their code, or their site will wither away and disappear. Flash is becoming a depricated technology. For video, the replacement is here. For games, it's just a matter oftime till PHP and Java replace it.
