    Where is Premiere Pro CC8.0?

    CraigTonkin Community Member

Hi, I'm a pro editor who switched from FCP7 to PProCC about 6 months ago after upgrading my workstation to accomodate the CC suite.

As much as I'm enjoying working with PPro, there are still a number of fundamental bugs/glitches that are a constant source of frustration. Now that Adobe has the captive audience of FCP deserters, I'm really hoping PPro will be tightened up with the next CC version (v8?).

Any ideas on when we can expect the next major update? I know many of the v7 bugs have been cleaned out with varying results but there still seems to be a bit of work to be done on Adobe's behalf.

Apologies if this is a redundant question.

I've seen no mention of when the next update is expected.

Its only a redundant question in the fact that no one,  apart from Adobe,  knows... and they wont be saying.

            Whats your "issues" anyway?

There still seems to be many glitches involving audio/audio playback such as noisy artifacts, sound dropping in/out while playing back, etc.

The dynamic linking between PPro/Speedgrade/After Effects is cool but far from being without problems.

Suseptibility to crashing seems comparitively high compared to FCP7

None of these things are having significant impacts on my ability to complete my jobs, they are more like niggles that I think should be eradicated by now. And I'm imprementing work habits that can avoid those niggles from becoming a problem.

Also, I think the PPro interface still needs some tidying up.

However, CC7 is a vast improvement on previous versions in that regard. I had to do a job on a client's machine last week that was still running CS5.5. It was nasty.

Craig, I think we're all feeling similar. Some glitches & bugs (for some people they've been horrid) but we're able to work through/around any problems. My crystal ball seems to be out of the shop being repaired right now, so sorry ... can't help with the prognostication.Best guess is we'll know it's coming when they announce it's ready for download ...

I think the thing I was wanting to ascertain was: is there a historical precedent with regards to time between major updates. Are we due for one now? Or does history tell us that it is still months away?

Will the new Clould delivery model see a continuation of periodical, incremental updates rather than major updates?

Thats the deal ....but no one will know whats coming or when.

A select few get this.  Not me or a general rule for most.  Take that FWIW.

FWIW: Mac Users seem to have more issues with Premiere than PC users (from anecdotal evidence.)

How ?...tell us  all so we can discuss and consider it with you

I dont ever us Dynamic Link . Others are fine with it. Some are not. There are other workflows for better stabilty. eg DI

Direct Link is a great new developing technology that I have more faith in. Doubt it will work with AEFX though.

DL to Sg (as far as my projects go) is working fine and I LOVE it. I'm enough of a noob that figuring out the settings for export & then import into Sg & back to PrPro is a headache. Shooternz has tried to help me with it ... and if I actually tried using it a couple times I'm sure I might actually get it. But as currently I don't *need* to get it, I ain't getting it.

DyLink to Ae ... I've done it a couple times, and in my near future there's some things that really need be done there ... so ... we'll see how that works.

But the Next Coming is always "like a thief in the night" ... so to speak. And we are all waiting for the dawn of a great new age ... while a'working away. Cheers!

                        Craig,

Historically, PrPro has gotten an upgrade on an approx. 18 mo. schedule. However, with CC, and the updates, I do not have even a guess, how that might change - or stay the same.

We are all at the mercy of the PrPro Development Team for any information, and things seem to be fairly quiet now.

Shooter, off the top of my head a few things that I would like to see implemented in the PPro user interface:

Project palatte: I would like to apply coloured labels to the actual name and text of an asset/sequence as I was able to do in FCP7 rather than just the coloured box that sits next to it in the Label column. Would also like a Codec column.

Effects Control Palette: I would like to see greater visual dilineation between Motion, Opacity, Time Remap and applied effects. Currently, these appear all clumped together. Even a coloured line to break them up would help.

Sequence Palette; Again, i would love a clearer line to separate the video and audio tracks. i would like to be able to colour label the Sequence Tab as I could with FCP7. This was a very handy tool when you had multiple sequences open.

Yeah, I'm being picky. But what the hell?

                            Craig,

Please file these requests here: http://adobe.ly/feature_request

Otherwise, they probably won't reach the product team.

                            Thanks,
                            Kevin
