It still won't work.  I am wondering if it has something to do with the 1.7 GHz machine.  One reference said that flash player 12 required a 1.83 GHz machine.  Is this true and might this be the problem?

If so, do you know of a safe way to download a flash player that will work with a 1.7 GHz machine?  flash 11?

Thanks

The thing is... and I really wish they'd update it on the requirements page... Your 2011 MBA has a Corei5. That's a Dual core to begin with (1.7gHz X 2 = 3.4gHz [root mean speed]), BUT... The Intel Corei5 for Macs is "hyperthreaded" which means it functions as a quad core processor (1.7gHz X 2 = 6.8gHz [root mean speed]), so you're WAY BEYOND the minimum precessor requirement.

Do the clean install, but do it as a "COCOA" install.

Follow the steps to remove the old plug-in files, and download the FULL installer. Here's where it differs:

Double click the DMG to mount it and when it opens DO NOT run the installer.

RIght click (or Cmd+click, or use a 2 finger tap) and "Show Package Contents".

In Contents/Resources, double click the Adobe Flash Player.pkg.

Follow the steps to install it using OS X's "COCOA" installer

When it's done "eject" the DMG by right clicking it or just drag it to the trash and it'll eject.

You should be good to go.

I can't find out how to use the Cocoa installer?

I called the apple folks and they can't help me on this.

Thank you for your thoughts on this.  I have attached the screen that I get when I try ti perform this as above.  It gets stuck here.

This may seem like a totally dumb question, but you can't possibly be running OS10.5.8 on a 2011 MBAir, can you?

A 2011 would have shipped with 10.7.

Have you seen THIS when trying the downloader/installer?

GIE.jpg

Specifically, a "General Installation Error"?

Thanks for your help.  I did not try it because of the complexity.

I ended up just reinstalling my operating system and now it works fine.

It sounds like it is an operating system issue.
