To capture into Premiere Elements you need a firewire connection and consequently a computer with a firewire port.
Does your computer has appropriate motherboard slot for use of a firewire card? What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 11 running on?

Rainkitty4 Mar 31, 2014 3:30 PM (in response to A.T. Romano)This is my computer. I just bought it a few months ago. I have Windows 8- 64 bit. I'm didn't realize when I bought it that I needed a Firewire port. I thought USB or HDMI would work. :-( How do I go about getting a firewire card? I'm not sure if I have the right slot for it.

The grassvalley converters are the only option? No one has had any luck with the USB ones? I thought there would be a few more options out there. I haven't seen any options for USB 3.0 either.

Bill Hunt Mar 31, 2014 3:52 PM (in response to Rainkitty4)Rainkitty4,
While there might be some other A-D devices, with USB connections, PrE will not Capture for you. However, there are some other programs, that might work, and most USB capture cards and devices usually come with some software.
You will want to use a program that will capture to DV-AVI Type II file, so I would definitely check that out, before you buy.
I would also stay away from the Dazzle devices, as they give so many problems, even with the Pinnacle software included.
I have used a Turtle Beach capture card in the past, and the only issue that I had with it was that the Video & Audio was always OOS (Out Of Sync) but by a constant 12 Frames. That was easy to fix, but had to be done for each DV-AVI file, in Premiere. After a few years of that, I just moved on to a Grass Valley/Canopus FireWire unit, and never looked back.
Good luck,
Hunt

Thanks for the reply. I have never been there and done this so this is going to be from what I have read.
The following details on installing a PCI Firewire card looked interesting so I am posting them for informational (non promotional) reasons
http://www.dynexproducts.com/support/faq/usb_and_firewire/firewire_cards.html
You should contact Acer for verification, but according to the following your computer has 3 PCI slot (2 available).
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2413568,00.asp
If your computer is new, you may want to discuss the PCI Firewire Card matter with Acer to get its input on the matter before you invest in the project.
There was a recent thread here where the Premiere Elements user faced the Premiere Elements capture firewire with the rare find of a HP computer with a firewire port. But, since your computer is new, that idea would seem impractical.

nealeh Mar 31, 2014 4:39 PM (in response to Rainkitty4)Since you bought your PC from Amazon, here is the Aamazon PCI FireWire search. You can get a PCI one for under US$7 or a PCIe for under US$8 (you need to check if you have PCI, PCIe, or both).

For further reference, here is the thread of barbqman who decided to go with the HP Elitebook 8570 which comes with a firewire port

As for a firewire card for your computer's PCI slot, do you have free technical service support available to you from Acer or the place of purchase who can customize an answer for you as to which of the many firewire card choices would be best for your particular computer?
Looking forward to learning of your progress when you get a chance.
Thanks.

Rainkitty4 Mar 31, 2014 7:35 PM (in response to A.T. Romano)Thanks for the help so far! I chatted with the Acer technical support, and they were of no help. They just said I would have to talk to the Firewire card company to see if it was compatible.
I believe I have PCI-E slots. At least from Newegg's description of my computer. I couldn't any specifications on my actual computer. Is the difference between the PCI and PCI-E just the size?
I see some Firewire cards say "PCI 32-bit 33Mhz Interface". Since I have a 62-bit operating system do I need one that is 64-bit? Or doesn't that matter?
Thanks!

Disappointing chat with the computer techical support group.
When I saw your post, I search for some input on how to cope with the many firewire choices out there.
Have you seen this one?

From what I have read, that PCI-E sounds like PCI Express. Please read think above for differences in PCI types.
I will keep searching. Please let us know how you do with the link in this post.
Thanks.
