Suddenly, I am getting the following error message whenever I look at my chm file:

The file
mk:@MSITStore:D:\OP_Docs\OP_16_Docs\OP16_ReleaseNotesProjectArea\SSL!\Microsoft_HTML_Help\OP_16_Release_Notes.chm::/OP_16_Release_Notes.hhc contains an invalid HTML tag.

Can anyone tell me how to find the invalid tag? I looked in the .hhc file (text follows) but I apparently don't know what it is I'm looking for! Help would be much appreciated.

Hello Betsy,

Welcome to the forum.

Is this chm file a newly generated file. If so it could be a simple corruption during generation. Try creating a new single source ouput and generate.

Brian,

I accidentally stumbled onto the answer. I had a merged .chm file that was not "in" a book in the TOC - it was just sort of "out there." I put it in a book and voila!

I've been getting a similar message and I, too, have merged .CHMs that are not "in a book"--but that's the way I want them. The merged topic groupings should be at the same level as the top level books of the container help project. That doesn't seem like an unreasonable request, and the message doesn't appear on a user's system (one without RoboHelp installed) so I'm going to ignore the message.

But if any Adobe employees are monitoring this thread, this is something that should go onto your list of things to fix.

First off, I see you are new here. So please don't confuse the rather officious looking logo near my forum name as meaning that I'm an official Adobe employee. I'm just a recognized volunteer.

Secondly, if you really wish to gain Adobe's attention, you should consider completing a Wish Form/Bug Report. You may do this by clicking here.

And last but not least, I'm thinking that there may be very little Adobe can actually do to banish the "Help Author" messages. As you have seen in this thread, they only occur on the help author's PC. Normally, it's because other authoring components from Microsoft are present. This makes me feel that the issue is probably totally within the realm of Microsoft's control and not Adobe's.
