Installing Flash

When I try to install Flash the program stops at 50% and I get a message to stop Safari.  Safari is already off.  I have uninstalled my old version of Flash, then tried to install the new version but it stops again at 50% with the same message to stop Safari.  What do I do now?

Dashboard widgets and an app called "MenuTab" (a Facebook plugin) can cause this. Best to reboot as part of the install:
