Lighting effect

Version Photoshop Element 12.1 - Filters - Rendering - Lighting effect not available. How install it please ?

Hi,

Filters >> Render effect is present only PSE 11 and earlier version .
Pse 12 and 12.1 does not provide this filter.

Note that this only works in windows, though, not a mac, since PSE 12/mac is 64 bits, and the lighting effects is 32 bits.

I don`t have lighting effect in the render filer !! We want to have it back .

You can get the lighting effects plugin for the windows version pse 12 from here:
(if you don't have an older version of pse to get the plugin from)

It's called Lighting Effects Classic

http://download.adobe.com/pub/adobe/photoshop/win/13.x/Win_Optional_Plug-Ins.zip

After you unzip (extract) the zipped folder Win_Optional_Plug-Ins.zip
(right click on it and choose Extract All)

open the Optional Plug-Ins Win32>Plugins folder and copy the LightingEffects.8BF and Lighting Styles
(select both files, right click and choose Copy)

go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 12\Plug-Ins

and paste in that folder.

Start or restart the pse 12 editor and the filter should be under Filter>Render>Lighting Effects Classic

We do exactly like the previous version but when we apply the effect, then the result show lines. Have you ever seen this problem before ?

You have to use the internet browser on your computer, log into the forum and use the Insert Image button to post screenshots.

Previously, we copy and past the lighting effects from version #2. But when you give us the new link for the version 12 we copy and past the new folders in the following path on this print screen :

But... in this forum , on the print screen that you send, the path is different as shown on this print screen:

Our work station does not show the same elements as your's in the path:

The plug in on our work station is in the folder "required". When we past the folders that you send us, Photoshop Element 12 does not shown the lighting effects in the list. We do not copy the new files in the right place?

(we also try to put the new folder in Optional Plug Ins, but no result)

Result : No Ligthing effect in the menu (French)

Remove the LightingEffects and Lighting Styles from the required plugins>filters folder

Put the LightingEffects and Lighting Styles from the zip file you downloaded into the Plug-Ins folder

My experience is that it works fine in the \Required\Plug-Ins structure and does not matter if you put the plug-in in Required\Plug-Ins, or Required\Plug-Ins\Filters.

I use Required\Plug-Ins\Filters as this completely mirrors the PSE11 structure.

Thank you for your help! Here are the results considering the two configuration options. Unfortunately something is missing because the result does not show the light effects in the menu. Some capture in chronological order:

I can only guess that it is a problem with the version of the LightingEffects.8bf file you are using.

I suggest you download and install the PSE11 trial and use the files from that version.

http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/photoshop-elements-10-11-downloads.html - you'll need to unzip the file you download and run the setup.exe file in it. After you've copied the Lighting Effects files you need you can uninstall PSE11.

Right click on the LightingEffects , chose Properties and see if it says anything about the plugin being blocked

But no result! We try also the 2 paths configuration; under Plug in and Filters.

We also try to doanload the trial version 11 (on another work station) but could not open the zip folder !!!! Error msg.

Do you think there is other folders missing or in falt someware ?

The archive use the .7z format which you can unzip with http://www.7-zip.org/ (or if you prefer the portable version - http://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/7-zip_portable).

It looks like you might have used the LightingEffects filter from the 64 bit plugins.

in the zip file that you downloaded

http://download.adobe.com/pub/adobe/photoshop/win/13.x/Win_Optional_Plug-Ins.zip

there are two folders for the optional plugins: one says 32 bits and the other says 64 bits

you want the LightingEffects out of the 32 bit folder
