I am trying to import topics from other projects using the Import HTML File option. The import works fine until I try to apply a template to the imported topics. Then, I get an error and the HTML files appear with red X's on them.

Hi vaprocura

Are you using version 6? If so, read on.

What is the "error"? Was it an actual error message or was it possibly a simple advisory saying something along the lines of: The FileName.book has been created to hold the resources?

If so, crack Windows Explorer open and look at your file structure. If you see folders ending in .book, your missing topics should be found inside. From there, you drag them out of the .book folders and back to where they were initially. Once you do this, the red x's should disappear and you should be back in business.

Cheers... Rick

It is an advisory saying something along the lines of: The FileName.book has been created to hold the resources. Why does it do that?

We have numerous .chm files so we have decided to merge some of our projects together. What is the best way to merge projects? Obviously, importing the HTML files is not the prefered method.

It's possible to merge projects by importing complete .chm files into a master project.

If you go to the TOC Tab, you'll see a Merged Projects icon. That will let you bring entire compiled sub projects into the master project.

When you generate the master project, all the sub-projects will be included in the generation.

WARNING: There is a known RoboHelp bug with this method. Once there are .chm files in the master project output directory, RoboHelp will not overwrite them. Therefore after you have generated the master project, set the targets for the SSL's of the sub-projects to the output directory of the master project - not to the directory where RoboHelp imported the CHM files. This means when you update the sub projects, the output of the master project will contain the lastest sub-projects.
