How can I add an automatic date?

I want to put a heading in my documents: "Date Document Produced" and have it automatically show the current date. I've looked in Help and searched the Forums, so perhaps I'm searching under the wrong terminology. I would call it "insert a field" as in Word, or "add an automatic date."

Use Variables and select either Current Date (Long) or Current Date (Short) depending upon what format you need. There also is a Creation Date variable.
