Problem Syncronizing Folder in V. 5.4 (and 5.3)

Hi - I first noticed this in version 5.3, and hoped that version 5.4 would fix it but it hasn't. I am running Win 7 64 bit professional. No apparent issues with hardware. Optimized the catalog a few days ago.

In the Library module, if I point to a folder and right mouse button click I get an option to synchronize the folder. A dialog box pops up with 4 checkboxes.

      1. In my example the top checkbox says "Import new photos(2)" which is checked,
      2. The next says "Show import dialog before importing" which I first tried with it unchecked (the default).
      3. The next option (which is grayed out) says remove missing photos.
      4. Finally, the option to scan for metadata updates is checked.

Clicking on the sychronize button results in the message "No photos or videos were found to import" (in spite of first saying that there were 2 new photos).

If I check the show import dialogue box I, the syncronize button produces the import  dialog window with an empty new photos window.

So the problem seems to be that somehow the synchronize dialog first (correctly ot incorrectly) identifies two new files, but then can't find them when it actually comes to importing them.

      Any solutions would be appreciated.

The problem with the Folder synchronise process is that it is in two stages.....the first being a prima facie check for new files (2 in your case), the second being a more thorough check of the potential new files in accordance with your previous import options.....including the "Don't import suspected duplicates" option.

So, if that check-box is typically checked during import, AND if the two new files are in fact already in the catalog, then there will be zero files imported. You can check this by running the Synchronise again, make sure you have the Import dialog selected, when that opens uncheck the "Suspected Duplicates" check-box and see if those two files now appear.

That may be the problem, or it may be something related to the type of files that Lightroom doesn't like.
