I was told that the version 13 of Flash player will not yet work with my computer.  I was advised to install a previous version.  However,  everytime I try to do this, the new version comes up.

What can I do to get a version 12?

Who told you that?  If your computer was able to run Flash Player 12, then it should also run version 13.
