1. Re: x264 PRO & PROBE Plugin
Jeff Bellune Apr 15, 2014 3:37 AM (in response to coredvideo)It's an outstanding plug-in, and the author is very responsive to requests for help. However, it is expensive. But it's certainly worth it if you do a lot of H.264 encoding.
Cheers,
Jeff

4. Re: x264 PRO & PROBE Plugin
emiliano.tv Apr 15, 2014 6:47 AM (in response to coredvideo)yes, you can... in the "encoding quality" box you can change between fast, medium, slow, very slow.
I tend to use "fast" for previewing. "Medium" and "slow" for long videos, and "very slow" for short clips. -
5. Re: x264 PRO & PROBE Plugin
JSS1138 Apr 15, 2014 7:49 AM (in response to coredvideo)I tried it once. It worked fine, but I found it lacking in the controls I wanted, so I let the trial expire and went back to the free x264 encoders, which offer the full range of x264 options.

6. Re: x264 PRO & PROBE Plugin
Jeff Bellune Apr 15, 2014 9:37 AM (in response to JSS1138)What controls do you need that it doesn't have? I bet if you put in a feature request with support at x264Pro you'd get some attention -- because if you need it then chances are someone else will too.
Cheers,
Jeff

JSS1138 Apr 15, 2014 10:10 AM (in response to Jeff Bellune)Two that I recall are IP Ratio and PB Ratio. There may have been others.
But honestly, I think it should include them all. The free ones do.

In x264Pro you can set the I or P frame interval, as well as the GOP length.
"The free ones do" -- you mean the free x264 Premiere Pro plug-ins? I haven't been able to find any of those.

That's not quite what those parameters are for.
you mean the free x264 Premiere Pro plug-ins?
No, I mean the free x264 encoders. The ones that do have all the options and don't cost any money. (The fact that they require a DI is less of an issue than the missing parameters the the $300 price tag of x264Pro.)
