    Premiere CC 7.2.2 crashes when trying to export via Media Encoder

    pictures_in_motion Community Member

      Hello,

      My computer is a:

      2x Intel Xeon Processor E5-2650 (2000 MHz, 20MB);

      16x Kingston DIMM 8 GB PC3-8500 ECC Reg.;

      PNY Quadro 4000 with 2048 MB GDDR5-RAM;

      PNY Tesla C 2075

      2x 2000 GB Western Digital RE4 (7200 UPM/S-ATA II) as a RAID I

      1x 120 GB OCZ Vertex 3 SSD

      1x 240 GB OCZ Vertex 3 SSD (system disk)

      Tyan S7050GM4NR motherboard

      Windows 7

      I freshly installed Windows 7 and the CC-Apps PremierePro, After Effects, Media Encoder, Photoshop and Speedgrade.

      When I try to export any video from premiere to the media encoder premiere crashes without any error message. The problem is not the project: I created several new projects and even if I only have one Photoshop-File in the timeline that I try to export: premiere crashes. When I export directly from premiere it works, but there is no chance to go via media encoder. The strange thing is that I can export from after effects to the media encoder without any problem...

      Does anybody have an idea?

          What is the preset of your sequence, and what kind of format are you exporting to?

            It doesn't matter at all. I tried it with DV AVI Pal sequences as well as AVC Intra 100 and h264 FullHD. I tried to export wmv and h264 but in any case premiere crashes immediatly...

            I restartet the pc, updated windows and nvidia drivers but by now it doesn't work...

              You report "even if I only have one Photoshop-File in the timeline." Let's take even Photoshop out of the equation. Please create a new sequence and a "synthetic" like a Bars and Tone or a Universal Counting Leader (File>New). Place just that synthetic on the timeline and try exporting.

              If it's still crashing, and if GPU acceleration is enabled, please try switching to Software Only (File>Project Settings>General>Renderer).

              Also, a log file might help identify the cause of the crash. Please right-click 'My Computer', select "Manage," and look under 'Event Viewer->Windows Logs->Application' to see if there's an event there from Premiere Pro. If so, copy the contents of that log and paste them here.

                Hi Mark,

                thanks for your answer. Without having anything changed, it works suddenly... I got the whole day crashes and now it works.

                Thanks for your reply, best regards

                  The Error is back!!!

                  Yesterday it worked today it crashes when I export from premiere via media encoder. I tried it with all the things you told me:

                  1. Bars+Tone => export => crash

                  2. Video Project with 2 short h264-files => export => crash

                  3. Software only renderer => crash

                  These are the two logs that I found:

                    And now I have got an additional problem:

                    Encore CS 6 also crashes when I try to build a DVD or export a DVD folder.

                    I have a client that needs his film on DVD until the end of next week. Is there another DVD-Authoring program that you can recommend?

                      As an alternative to Encore DVD, you have :

                      If you're on Mac, there's also the dying DVD studio pro in the FCP Studio suite.

                        Thanks,

                        do you also have a solution for my problem with the crashing media encoder?

                          The log file you posted does not appear to be related. "Microsoft-Windows-LoadPerf" is a Windows error, which seems to cause the whole system to hang or blue-screen. I don't know whether it can also interfere with the operation of individual apps like PPro.

                          This crash has me a bit stumped. I know of cases where AME crashes on export, I find a couple of reports in our bug database where Premiere crashed on attempting to launch the Export Settings dialog, but they were very narrow cases, limited to a particular source video format or to an unusual workflow.  And they're all fixed except one edge case specific to maximum resolution QuickTime exports.

                          So I know of no cases where the crash either occurred upon clicking Queue from Export Settings or occurred regardless of the source content.

                          You report "Premiere crashes without any error message." Can you provide more details about the nature of the crash? Does Premiere simply close without warning? Are any Premiere-related processes left running in Task Manager?

                          Also, please sketch out your exact workflow: what's selected where in PPro when you export, how you initiate export...

                          If you launch Adobe Media Encoder, can you import the sequence via File>Add Premiere Pro Sequence? Can you drag a sequence from PPro's Project panel to AME's Queue?

                            Thanks for your feedback.

                            My workflow is:

                            I have for testing only one sequence with bars+tone in it no other material is in the project. Then I go to "File>Export>Media" and choose for example "Windows Media" with the 1080 HD 25p Preset. It works until this point. The Media Encoder is already launched. Now I click on "Queue" then comes "preparing data for export" and premiere says "no response". In the task manager premiere is still visible with 0 percent CPU.

                            What is really very strange: when I encode something in the render queue coming from after effects an export then from premiere it works. If there is no AE project in the render queue it crashes...

                            In the media encoder I can add a premiere pro sequence without any problems...

                            Drag and drop works when I render a after effects file, when the media encoder just started it causes premiere to crash...

                              I have the exact same problem as pictures_in_motion.

                              I can export directly from Premiere no problem (one sequence at a time) but if I want to send a file or files to Media Encoder, it just hangs on the "Preparing data for export..." dialogue box. However, if I drag and drop sequences from Premiere into Media Encoder, it's fine. As soon as "Preparing data for export..." shows up, no matter if I wait 10 minutes or do it immediately, when I right-click Premiere, it gives me the Force Quit option as if it's a hanging application (which it is at that point). Everything was working properly before 7.2.2.

                              All are AVCHD 1080p30 Sequences which contain Photoshop layers with transparency (though not overlapping) and a title card created in Premiere Pro.

                              Thank you.

                                I have the same problem Punker describes but in this case the sequences are AVCHD 1080 24 without Photoshop documents and no title cards

                                  I too have the same problem.

                                  From Premiere 2014 8.0.0 (169) Build,

                                  CTRL+M,

                                  Queue,

                                  preparing data to export = not responding and having to End Task on Premiere.

                                    Same problem here, cc2014 for both Premiere and Media Encoder. If I try to send several timelines to Media Encoder, I get an "Export Media" dialog box -- "Preparing data for export" but the bar never moves. I let it go overnight, just for kicks. If I send a single timeline, I get never-ending pinwheel.

                                    Exporting a title graphic works fine. That said, my edits are not complex. H264 footage with color correct, audio and a few titles. Nothing complicated.

                                    Adobe -- this worked fine before the updates. Any thoughts?

                                      I should add that it seems I'm able to queue movies from individual, open timelines, but I can't select one or more timelines in the bin and send from there.

                                        Hi there, I was wondering if anyone has had any luck getting to the bottom of this. I am enjoying the switch from FCP to premiere most of the time, but I find it to be incredibly buggy and slow in comparison to FCP in alot of ways.

                                        Any one issue seriously affecting my workflow is that it crashes most of the time I attempt to set up a batch through media encoder. usually it gets to the "Export Media" dialog box and then freezes.

                                        Then sporadically it just works. And that is with identical sequence settings.

                                        I am working with 2k prores 4444 files in a 1080p sequence. Exporting and converting to 720p H264 web versions. It works fine when I do the files individually.

                                        Any thoughts?
