Issues with Adobe Flash on a Mac

I got my Mac back in November. I downloaded Flash Player right away so that I could watch videos. Everything has gone smoothly until about a week ago, when my youtube videos started playing severely choppy. The sound is off and you can't even really watch the videos because everything is moving so slowly and is so off. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program, and that doesn't seem to help. Any ideas?
