Shift to next marker not working

    MelHider

      Hi,

I'm one of the first in my Commercial editorial company to shift over to Premiere (from FCP), so this will be the first of many enquiries!

I work a lot with markers, and have set my keyboard shortcuts to match FCP, and then added shift+up / down to move between markers (as this isn't included within the default FCP setup). It worked at first, but now doesn't and moves from cut point to cut point or just erratically along the timeline? Any reason why this keyboard shortcut isn't working? I've double checked it is set correctly. Also, would be nice to have different colour markers, and for the option to make the marker label visible in the program monitor when you are on it.

          Welcome to the forum, M.

Navigating by marker in the timeline goes to clip markers as well as sequence markers. Unfortunately, clip markers are not shown at minimum track height (changing that is on our ToDo list...) If you increase the track height, I suspect you'll find clip markers that the playhead is jumping to.

Applying colors to the markers is not possible, except by changing the type of the marker--comment markers, chapter markers, etc., each have a different color. Of course they also have different properties and uses. Feel free to submit a feature request for that ability.

When you say "Marker label," are you referring to the name and/or comment? If so, that appears if the marker has duration and you're zoomed in far enough. It also pops up as a tooltip on mouse-over and can be shown in the monitor's new overlay.

It is actually jumping to both clip markers, sequence markers and areas where duplicate frames start (in looking for a pattern). This feature is most useful to me personally if it moves from sequence marker to sequence marker (is there a way to zero in on this?).

For the marker label I am referring to just the name. I like to move from marker to marker and see immediately what my comment is, so hovering over the marker wouldn't be efficient for this. I edit a lot of comedy dialoge, and it makes it much easier to seperate dialogue and easily shuffle between line options (where the marker comments refer to the dialogue in the clip selects). I will submit a feature request for this one. Thanks for your advice.

No, there's no way to limit marker navigation in the Timeline to sequence markers.

In prior versions, marker navigation in the Timeline recognized only sequence markers. When we changed the behavior to also go to clip markers, I expected that some customers would want a way to limit nav to sequence markers, whether by a pref, a modal button in the Timeline, or a separate shortcut. I've actually been surprised that I haven't seen more requests along this line here on the forum. (I'm not involved in reviewing feature requests submitted here: www.adobe.com/go/wish). If you choose to submit such a formal request, please specify how you think it should work...

Correction: in one prior version (CS6) the ability to navigate to clip markers in the sequence was inexplicable removed.  Every version of PP prior to CS6 had clip marker navigation in the sequence.  Thankfully, Adobe came to their senses and returned it for CC, with the only difference being that previously, the sequence and clip makers had different shortcuts, and now they're the same shortcut.

Not as elegant, but certainly better than not having clip marker navigation at all.  Perhaps a feature request is in order to return things fully back to normal and separate the shortcuts again.

This question is actually not answered: I found your question because I can't get "go to next marker" to function properly. It skips some clip markers but not others.

Frankly, the whole marker functionality seems a bit kaputt: can't set durations for the clip markers in the marker dialog box, for example. Sometimes a marker won't appear in a clip in a sequence until I double clip on that clip and open it in the browser.
