Can I transfer my eBooks to my iPod/iPhone? Are the devices even compatible?

I'm trying to copy my purches from my PC to my iPod and my iPhone. Do I need to download any apps? Is it even possible to do?

1.Download Bluefire reader on iPad

2.Go to Apps rab in iTunes

3.Scroll to file sharing

4.Select Blurfire from the list

5.On right hand side, go to Add and select the ePub file
