ChrisLewis10 Apr 30, 2014 10:18 AM (in response to Tore Jonssen)Something I need to adjust in the render setup to fix the interlacing issue? Only my second time around making a video in PP and the first one didn't have this issue. Video in is from a GoPro 1080p at 60fps and the project is in 1080 29.9. I used H.264 codec to render the project.

44. Re: RENDER PROBLEM - AME and Premiere Pro CC causing random horizontal lines on H.264 Renders
JesseSchluntz May 8, 2014 4:43 PM (in response to ChrisLewis10)Just spoke to tech support again. The guy said the upgrade won't be out until the end of this month (thought it was supposed to be then end of last month?), and he could not guarantee the issue will be fixed because they can't seem to get it to manifest on their end. Remember, I shared screens with a tech a few weeks ago and showed him the issue over and over again. But apparently only a small number of computers are having this issue. If my issue isn't fixed with the next upgrade, I'm going to ask Mac to swap out my machine with a new one.

45. Re: RENDER PROBLEM - AME and Premiere Pro CC causing random horizontal lines on H.264 Renders
outsider14 May 8, 2014 4:58 PM (in response to JesseSchluntz)For what it's worth, I'm having a similar issue with my new Mac Pro. Instead of weird artifacting like you guys have mentioned, I'm getting dropped frames and a lovely "flickering" effect that has no rhyme or reason to it whatsoever. I posted in this thread a while back and didn't get a response from Adobe. Seems like its caused by the same issue you guys are having... New Mac Pro 6 Core 32GB Ram, 2x AMD FirePro D500 cards running Premiere CC... I switched off Open_CL and didn't have the problem, but as you all have already mentioned it adds an incredible amount of time to even the simplest renders and exports.
It's absurd that so many of us are having this issue and nothing is being done about it.

parcyvall May 9, 2014 12:46 AM (in response to JesseSchluntz)I'd be more than happy to help the tech guys by providing any info/analysis/test-renders/... But I don't have the impression the right people at Adobe are aware of this thread?
Just let me know what we can do to help find out what makes this Mac Pro different to many others that work without the issue.... Come over here and have a look at it yourself if you like.

47. Re: RENDER PROBLEM - AME and Premiere Pro CC causing random horizontal lines on H.264 Renders
parcyvall May 21, 2014 12:37 AM (in response to JesseSchluntz)I called tech support again and finally reached someone, who was trying to understand what the problem was. He ended up asking me to send him a screenshot showing the problem, my Mac Pro system information and the project- & export-settings we used.
If any of you is interested in our details, I made them available here:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/jubdo0uj86pqadm/system-info.zip
He promised to keep me up to date... I'd suggest that each of you, opens a support ticket and sends them the data as well, to ensure Adobe recognizes this is not a single user being affected, but a whole bunch of them.

Bobokuan May 23, 2014 12:27 AM (in response to JesseSchluntz)I had found this problem come through if you using thunderbolt to dvi adapter. Once you just using the hdmi output there were no problem with it. maybe you can try it.

50. Re: RENDER PROBLEM - AME and Premiere Pro CC causing random horizontal lines on H.264 Renders
MaoSoto May 23, 2014 8:53 AM (in response to Bobokuan)I just tried using only an hdmi monitor and the rendering problem persists.
When Apple updated Mavericks to 10.9.3 the artifacts / lines in my rendering became even more obvious. It used to be thin flickering lines, but now its thick colored lines covering the entire frame.
I can't seem to be able to replicate any rendering problem with FCP or resolve or squeeze or AE. The problem is Premiere CC and Adobe Media Encoder CC.
While testing Premiere with various footage from different cameras, different codeqs and different frame rates, I kept getting these rendering artifacts. I tried many different sequence settings, matching the footage and not and always managed to make it happen. Some times it does't happen but as soon as you use brightness and contrast effect and or super impose a title created inside premiere, you can force the problem to happen.
I've been waiting for an update from Adobe since they were promoting it at NAB but it seems they must be having these problems because they have not put anything forward yet.
The problem is definitely related to using dual GPUs as playing the footage without rendering does not show the issues. Rendering uses both GPUs in Premiere and AME.
I'll patiently wait for the next upgrade to Premiere and AME. In the mean while I'm starting all new projects on FCP, which I'm discovering is now a lot better than Premiere and without bugs.

JesseSchluntz May 23, 2014 11:11 AM (in response to Bobokuan)I Always have hdmi out running when the problem occurs. You probably had a lucky render. It happens. GPUs are the issue.

fastplanetwil May 25, 2014 3:07 PM (in response to JesseSchluntz)I want to 500th this problem. I've had this going on since I got my Mac Pro. Now that Maverick 10.9.3 is released, it's way worse. None of the previous "possible" fixes suggested have made any difference. This is terrible, I have to render on my 4 year old macbook pro.

Felix Van der Hallen May 26, 2014 2:32 AM (in response to JesseSchluntz)Same problem here, new Mac pro with dual D500 cards and with openCL rendering on, artifacts all the way in every codec.
Do we know the problem is related to the graphic cards or an software issue at adobe?

55. Re: RENDER PROBLEM - AME and Premiere Pro CC causing random horizontal lines on H.264 Renders
parcyvall May 26, 2014 2:38 AM (in response to Felix Van der Hallen)Since FCP X does not have any issues, it seems to be a problem of the software communicating with the graphic cards...

DavidBlo May 26, 2014 3:01 AM (in response to ChadRHorn)I am having issues to playback prores on the new MacPro, having scrambled green lines now and then in the image while playing back. And I even haven't tried to export yet.

57. Re: RENDER PROBLEM - AME and Premiere Pro CC causing random horizontal lines on H.264 Renders
Jason Van Patten May 26, 2014 5:51 AM (in response to JesseSchluntz)For what it's worth: I've been following all of the various "New Mac Pro" and "Premiere" problems here on the forums. In some cases, they're due to third party plug-ins (specifically from Red Giant) not playing well with OpenCL. In other cases, people are seeing issues with the latest OS X: 10.9.3 causing crashes and other issues. That one, however, hasn't been confirmed by Apple yet and I doubt they will confirm it. They'll just release a quiet ninja patch to fix it, if the OS is in fact the culprit.
I don't have any suggestions if you're not running any third party plug-ins and you've seen this problem prior to 10.9.3 other than to keep opening cases. Bear in mind that this is a user forum, and not a support one. While we may get lucky now and then to have some participation from Adobe folks, it's not promised. So: keep pestering their support folks with new tickets (as useless as that sometimes seems...) so that someone starts paying attention.
As an aside: my nMP with 2xD700s runs Premiere just fine in MPE Hardware mode. I can export the h.264 without any artifacts, lines, or whatnot. That includes directly from Pr as well as queuing through AME. I'm also running OS X 10.9.3 without any crashes whatsoever.

58. Re: RENDER PROBLEM - AME and Premiere Pro CC causing random horizontal lines on H.264 Renders
parcyvall May 26, 2014 7:47 AM (in response to Jason Van Patten)Thanks for dipping in! Sadly we've had trouble without using any 3rd party plugins from the day our nMP arrived. 10.9.3 did introduce some new issues, but we sure had the horizontal lines before.
I second your call to open support tickets to the users, who haven't done so already.

59. Re: RENDER PROBLEM - AME and Premiere Pro CC causing random horizontal lines on H.264 Renders
JesseSchluntz May 26, 2014 1:57 PM (in response to DavidBlo)The random horizontal line issue occurs at random times both during playback and in any renders if you have open CL activated. To stop the problem during playback, go into your project>settings and change from open CL to software only. This is the same fix when exporting in order to avoid the horizontal lines (make sure open CL is turned off in the export settings). I am currently working in software only mode in premiere projects, exporting with software only, and avoiding Adobe media encoder altogether until Adobe fixes this mess. It's the only way I can guaranteed get my work done.
So ironic having the fastest Mac in history, only to have to work in the slowest mode possible.

60. Re: RENDER PROBLEM - AME and Premiere Pro CC causing random horizontal lines on H.264 Renders
j schwarz May 26, 2014 3:00 PM (in response to JesseSchluntz)Okay guys i found a fix. After talking to a bunch of Apple Tech and other New Mac Pro users the fix is ..... have the apple store replace your graphic card. I guess the first batch of Pros had a bad VRAM that is causing the issues. Once i had them replace my graphic card i haven't seen the issue since. A few other guys have done the same thing and it's fixed the issue for them as well. It took about 5days to get the replacement card in and then about 18hrs to replace it. So bring your system in and have them start the process of ordering a new card.

62. Re: RENDER PROBLEM - AME and Premiere Pro CC causing random horizontal lines on H.264 Renders
Stratusfilm May 26, 2014 9:09 PM (in response to Mark Mapes)I have cleared cache files, purged memory, restarted the new Mac Pro late 2013, reset the PRAM, prayed, etc. and the horizontal lines still appear in the exported file at random. I have tried CBR, VBR, render using software only, render using GPU setting. I found a post on REDuser.net saying that if I created a Standard User account on the Mac, and used that account instead of the admin account, that I shouldn't have any problems. It seemed to work for the first few times. But can't repeat that success consistently. Running CC latest version.

63. Re: RENDER PROBLEM - AME and Premiere Pro CC causing random horizontal lines on H.264 Renders
tsnider99 May 27, 2014 7:16 AM (in response to ChadRHorn)Same horizontal lines problem for me as well with H.264 encoding. I encoded ProRes no problem with this particular long-form (about 35 min) sequence. But the H.264 definitely showed it. I'm using "queue" to AME 7.2.2 with PP CC. I've got the new Mac Pro with 32GB RAM and dual D700's with 6GB VRAM.
Can someone from Adobe chime in here?

65. Re: RENDER PROBLEM - AME and Premiere Pro CC causing random horizontal lines on H.264 Renders
JesseSchluntz May 27, 2014 9:12 AM (in response to tsnider99)Hi everyone. I started this discussion a while back and just want to clarify the current status of this issue so you can save the time of reading all these posts:
THE FACTS
- The horizontal lines issue is random, yet persistent, in both playback and renders in both H.264 and Prores.
- You can get clean renders using open CL, there's just no way of predicting when it will work.
- The issue is persistent in both Premiere Pro and Adobe Media encoder.
- Creating other user accounts, clearing the cache, or avoiding 3rd party plug ins will NOT fix the issue.
- Calling tech support will not fix the issue. This discussion is your best source.
THE WORKAROUND
- To get around the playback/render issue in PP, go up to the project menu, and in the settings turn off open CL. Use software only.
- To get around the render issue in AME, turn off open CL in the render panel. Use software only.
THE MOST LIKELY FIX TO THIS ISSUE
since not everyone is having this issue, the most likely fix is found in post #60 (J Schwarz). I have an appointment at the apple store this week to line up my replacement cards.

66. Re: RENDER PROBLEM - AME and Premiere Pro CC causing random horizontal lines on H.264 Renders
zuccon123 May 27, 2014 11:16 AM (in response to JesseSchluntz)Well please let us know if replacing the GPU will fix the issue, since I'm not quite sure this will be the solution. If I use FCPX there's no horizontal lines in renders so I suppose the GPU is not broken at all.

MaoSoto May 27, 2014 12:02 PM (in response to JesseSchluntz)I couldn't wait anymore for Apple's and Adobe's updates with fixes to these GPU issues. I just took my new Mac Pro to Tekserve (apple's certified support) in New York City to have them replace the GPUs.
They'll let me know on Friday if I'm getting the computer fixed then or in a few more days. I'll post here what happens.

68. Re: RENDER PROBLEM - AME and Premiere Pro CC causing random horizontal lines on H.264 Renders
Bigbenx May 27, 2014 1:38 PM (in response to JesseSchluntz)I just had a long battle with these stupid lines & glitches this past weekend. My horizontal lines came in when my dynamic linked projects were seen. I deleted the project from the timeline & added it back again to where I deleted it. It exported perfectly, after 3 days of convincing my team that the devil had it out for me to be late for a deadline! I tried a lot of what you guys have already done like :
Delete All Render files
Tried different export settings
Tried using maximum render quality
Restarted the computer 30 times
Cleared the cache folders
Duplicated timelines
Like I said nothing worked until I deleted whatever clip that was causing the glitch (since it happened around the same time always) then replace it with the same clip from the project window. I could not see the glitch inside of Premiere while editing also, so it was only in my export files. Hope this works for others

JesseSchluntz May 27, 2014 5:00 PM (in response to Bigbenx)I'm sorry to inform Bigbenx, that although you put forth a noble effort, you wasted your time. The issue will most likely return.
TO EVERYONE IN THIS FORUM:
Read my last post (65) and stop wasting your time diving through hours of time consuming hoops. The issue is the graphics cards. Always has been. you can only trick them so much.

71. Re: RENDER PROBLEM - AME and Premiere Pro CC causing random horizontal lines on H.264 Renders
zuccon123 May 28, 2014 2:06 AM (in response to JesseSchluntz)I made several tests with other applications. Motion, After Effects, FCPX and Speedgrade work very well. No glitches or horizontal lines. So it seems a problem related to Premiere only. Adobe should say something at this point...

73. Re: RENDER PROBLEM - AME and Premiere Pro CC causing random horizontal lines on H.264 Renders
outsider14 May 28, 2014 11:31 AM (in response to knorrdyk)While it sounds like the GPU's are the problem, has anyone tried uninstalling all third party plugins and seeing if that makes a difference at all? I have some FX-Factory and Red Giant plugins installed – wondering if un-installing might make a difference?
Would like to hear if anyone else has tried this before I go through the hassle of un-installing everything.

cupojoe88 May 28, 2014 12:58 PM (in response to JesseSchluntz)JesseSchluntz, I am not questioning your answer because that sounds like the only solution from everything I've read. I just wonder did 10.9.3 expose a defect that had been there all along or did it cause something to happen. Everything was fine until updating the system (which yes, I know, I shouldn't have done — I was updating something else and hit Update All). As far as the Apple store, did you get to take your machine back with you after they diagnosed it? It's my only machine at this point and can't go 10 days without it.

76. Re: RENDER PROBLEM - AME and Premiere Pro CC causing random horizontal lines on H.264 Renders
Nabolom May 28, 2014 3:20 PM (in response to JesseSchluntz)*BIG NEWS*
I just talked to the AMD's chief engineer and he told me that the cards works correctly (let's not panic on that issue) rather it is a matter of updating the OPEN CL 1.2 to 2.0, ADOBE should be working on it. He told me to wait for the new upgrade and it will work perfectly fine.*Once again, this it's not AMD card problem, it is the upgrade from OPEN CL 1.2 to OPEN CL 2.0, so don't waste your time trying to change the AMD card*
Adobe really needs to comunicate this things to prevent this kind of alarm between Premiere Pro CC users, just saying.
Best,
L

78. Re: RENDER PROBLEM - AME and Premiere Pro CC causing random horizontal lines on H.264 Renders
JesseSchluntz May 28, 2014 3:33 PM (in response to cupojoe88)First off Nabolom, see post 76. Made me very happy! (oh wait that's your post. thanks)
I haven't upgraded to the new OS because I heard about all the problems, so it's not the OS.
Regarding the GFX card replacement I was planning on (not now), you take in your computer for things like that to get thing set up, then bring it back for the repair only (once they have the part and can for sure begin work). I was planning to drop it off over the weekend. 10 days would definitely not work!

79. Re: RENDER PROBLEM - AME and Premiere Pro CC causing random horizontal lines on H.264 Renders
Kevin Monahan May 28, 2014 3:36 PM (in response to JesseSchluntz)Thanks for summing this up, Jesse.
There also may be issues with OS X 10.9.3, so we do expect that the upcoming version of OS X may contain fixes for problems like this. So, it's possible that your GPUs/VRAM are OK, and you could still experience that issue. In that case, downgrading to OS X 10.9.2 or rendering via Software Only would solve this problem.
Thanks,
Kevin
