Why is scrolling so slow?

On Mavericks 10.9.2, ADE 3.0.  Scrolling is painfullly slow.  If the page happens to have a picture, it gets worse.  Its unusable!

Also, why does the application "beep" when I use the arrow keys???  How do I turn this off?

I'm having the same problem

using DE on mac air---scrolling is hopelessly slow and also beeps if I press the forward arrow to try to turn pages.

any suggestions on how to get this working?

I see your post is 6 years old. Did you ever get this fixed? I hear a beep when I scroll using the arrow keys.
