    Illustrator CS6 producing corrupt SVG files

    lnorris921

      I have had Illustrator for a few months, and I haven't had any problems with saving files as SVGs until a couple of weeks ago. One day, I was able to save them with no problem,  and the files could be opened in all other SVG viewing/editing programs, then, the next day, the files I saved as SVGs could not be opened in Silhouette Studio (The file is corrupt) or Illustrator (The file is corrupt, please verify). I can open these SVGs in Inkscape and resave them there. Then, the files will open in AI and Silhouette Studio without a problem. I've done everything I can think of, from simply restarting my computer to uninstalling and reinstalling AI. But, the problem continues. What could have gone wrong or changed to make Illustrator suddenly start to product corrupt SVGs? I would really like to find a way to resolve this problem so I can cut the extra stepp of opening and saving in Inkscape out of my to do list. Illustrator is too much of an investment for it not to be working properly. Any help you can give me would be so appreciated.

          l,

          The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.

          1) Close down Illy and open again;

          2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);

          3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);

          4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);

          5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);

          Even more seriously, you may:

          6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

            Hi,

            I am having similar issues. My problem started when i downloaded the new verison of Silhouette Designer software. I get the file might be corrupt error when i open svg's i made with Ai. Other svg's that i purchached work ok. I can still open the svg's with Ai just fine, just not with Silhouette. I tried opening and saving them in Inkscape, however they open in Silhouette very tiny! (like several images are less then one inch!)

            As for the suggested fixes, i'm going to try 1 and 2, however i don;t understand the remaining options, i'm new to Ai.

            I've also emailed Silhouette, because i'm not sure if the problem is with Ai or with Silhouette! I've spent a lot of time creating svg's to match my stamps, so this must work!

              I am having the same problem. I think the issue is with Illustrator. I can open other SVG's from others and that I created before updating Illustrator. But I cannot open SVG's I created with Illustrator since updating Illustrator. I don't have the option to uninstall and reinstall several times. I have a a data cap on my internet, so not gonna do that. I will try some other things suggest and see if that works.

                I figured it out! When the SVG save Options box appears, go the Advanced section and uncheck Responsive. Once I did that, I could open the designs in theSilhouette software.

                    So glad you got it to work! Bummer you have to resave 100's of files though. Oh and I e-mailed Silhouette too. But just did it today, so haven't hear back.
