1. Re: 23.98p source on 59.94i timeline
JSS1138 May 23, 2014 7:24 PM (in response to VideoProNYC)Premiere Pro has gotten pretty damned good at making things work when the footage and the sequence don't quite match. Just what is the problem you're having? My own brief test showed nothing unusual.

VideoProNYC May 24, 2014 2:28 AM (in response to JSS1138)23.98 footage has field issues on a 29.97 timeline, have to switch to 29.97p

3. Re: 23.98p source on 59.94i timeline
JSS1138 May 24, 2014 10:52 AM (in response to VideoProNYC)I'm just not seeing that here. PP adds the necessary pulldown and 24p footage looks just fine in a 30i timeline. Are you on the latest 7.2.2?

Broadway Video May 27, 2014 11:43 AM (in response to JSS1138)yes, on latest...are you viewing it on a broadcast monitor, or in the computer only monitor, because it displays fine on the computer monitor, only on output, which is both to a TVLogic via SDI and a Panasonic plasma via component

5. Re: 23.98p source on 59.94i timeline
Qengineering May 27, 2014 12:30 PM (in response to Broadway Video)You'll have to be more specific about what's F'd up. I work with 23.976 source and output to 29.97 interlaced on a daily basis (broadcast). When you drop a 23.976 clip into a 29.97 interlaced sequence, PrP properly adds a 3:2 telecine pull down resulting in a cycle of 3 progressive frames followed by 2 interlaced frames. I view my output on a computer monitor, SDI to a LED flat screen reference monitor and component to a CRT monitor to confirm proper field dominance.
The only situation I've ever encountered is reversed field dominance (some describe as jittering or strobing) but that usually occurred when down converting to standard definition, which didn't standardize on upper field first field dominance.
So, other than adding the 3:2 pulldown, specifically, what problems are you seeing?

JSS1138 May 28, 2014 10:42 AM (in response to Broadway Video)Viewing on both the computer monitor and an external CRT. No issues on either.

7. Re: 23.98p source on 59.94i timeline
VideoProNYC May 29, 2014 7:48 AM (in response to Qengineering)3:2 pulldown is correct, it's a field dominance issue, very similar to HD/SD field inversion, but it's the 59.94i sequence not displaying the 23.98p footage correctly, it looks like it's trying to display the 23.98 with lower field dominance, but the sequence is set to upper...I'll try to get a picture of what is happening.
