Any third party plug-ins activated? Say, from Red Giant, perhaps? If so, have you tried without them?

Silberfarb May 18, 2014 12:05 PM (in response to jasonvp)Indeed I do and will try removing them. Is this a known bug with Red Giant plug-ins?

Douglas S. Nagel May 20, 2014 7:53 AM (in response to Silberfarb)Silberfarb,
Did removing the Red Giant plugins solve your problem? I have the exact same issue on my 2 week old late 2013 mac pro (black trash-can model). I also have the Red Giant Keyer suite installed but haven't used it with the new hardware yet. I have uninstalled it and will be running tests, but the issue is intermittent and hard to replicate.

Todd_Reeder May 21, 2014 10:55 AM (in response to Silberfarb)Does this happen when you disable your plugins? If not, does this continue to happen if you switch to software rendering mode? File Menu/Project Settings/General
Also, I am assuming you have OS 10.9.3 installed?

Silberfarb May 21, 2014 10:59 AM (in response to Douglas S. Nagel)Hi Douglas,
I've been on a shoot for the last few days and will be back to address this problem the end of the week. I'll let you know how I fare. I'm also hoping to talk with an Adobe support tech.

Silberfarb May 21, 2014 11:02 AM (in response to Todd_Reeder)Hi Todd - I will try switching render modes to see what happens and yes I'm running 10.9.3. Will post a follow-up later in the week.

Douglas S. Nagel May 23, 2014 5:30 PM (in response to Silberfarb)I am on OS 10.9.3 as well. I spent about 6 hours today editing multi cam with 4 camera angles. I didn't have any problems with the video. So far so good. I did not use software rendering mode, just had previously uninstalled Red Giant.

Silberfarb May 23, 2014 6:12 PM (in response to Silberfarb)I've now uninstalled Red Giant and so far so good - no crashing/freezing etc., Strange that it seems only to effect my Mac Pro. Will be calling Red Giant to enquire.

It appears as though there may be an issue with the latest OS X (10.9.3) and the D700 GPUs specifically. It hasn't been confirmed by Apple, and probably won't be until they release a quiet patch. This article describes it a bit.
It's important not to take that article as gospel because no one from Apple is being quoted.

Thanks for the link. Very interesting. We should keep our eye on that. I actually have the D300 GPU and I'm having the same problems, though very intermittent.

Silberfarb May 24, 2014 9:13 AM (in response to jasonvp)Hi Jason,
This looks like the problem. Thanks for the link! For now I'm using my MacBook to compete projects. Will also attempt to roll back to 10.9.2

For what it's worth: I haven't been able to replicate any crashes, banding, or any other issues on my new Mac Pro running 10.9.3 (with D700s). Pr and AME work just fine for me. If you do manage to downgrade to 10.9.2 (which will require a complete reformat) and it fixes the problem, I'd be interested to know that.

Silberfarb May 30, 2014 7:25 PM (in response to Silberfarb)There have been rumors that the beta release of 10.9.4 will fix this problem. This is not the case. After loading 10.9.4 I am still seeing repeated crashes.

Kevin-Monahan May 30, 2014 8:43 PM (in response to Silberfarb)Hi Silverfarb,
Do you have CUDA installed by any chance? See this blog post: Avoid installing NVIDIA CUDA drivers on computers with AMD GPUs
Thanks,
Kevin

Silberfarb May 31, 2014 5:39 AM (in response to Kevin-Monahan)Hi Kevin,
Thanks for the note. I do not have NVIDIA CUDA drives installed. Although some posts have recently suggest that installing NVIDIA 5.5.28 may help. Which is counter to what I thought but I may try.
This situation is getting quite difficult for my business and has unfortunately resulted in delays for clients and soon losses of jobs for me. Extended conversations with upper level managers at both Apple and Adobe have not yielded any results yet. Regardless I appreciate your attention to this matter and hope that Apple/Adobe will move quickly in resolving this.
Regards,

Douglas S. Nagel May 31, 2014 6:51 AM (in response to Silberfarb)Ben,
There's been reports of some users getting their graphics cards replaced in their late 2013 Mac Pros, and then having no further issues. I'm not sure how much weight that still carries, as most of the recent conversation has revolved around OS 10.9.4 (more specifically OpenCL 2.0), but it might be something you could try. For now, I'm going back to my 2008 Mac Pro for all my video work.
