Lilybiri May 26, 2014 2:37 AM (in response to rscharfer)Really hope someone from the staff pops in, because I have never been able to find the exe in CP8. Not the only loss...

Roenaid May 26, 2014 3:36 AM (in response to rscharfer)I second Rschafer. This is something I need to get resolved soon please. In the website blurb it says 8 can publish EXE and APP. Can't find it...
Thanks!

4. Re: How can I publish a stand-alone file with Captivate 8?
Missteach May 27, 2014 3:18 AM (in response to rscharfer)Despite LIVE CHAT person saying exe is no longer supported, the Captivate 8 manual on page 418 states that this is possible. Can anyone confirm please?

aren May 27, 2014 3:37 AM (in response to Missteach)Publish to an .exe has been removed in Captivate 8. We apologies for the typo in the manual.

7. Re: How can I publish a stand-alone file with Captivate 8?
Roenaid May 27, 2014 3:43 AM (in response to aren)Why was it removed?
EXE files are still used by a lot of corporations that are late adopters. Large corporations are very slow to change their ways and computer based trainings are often created for large corporations.
On a personal level it means Captivate 8 is of no use for a fairly large project and I'll continue to use 7.

8. Re: How can I publish a stand-alone file with Captivate 8?
Lilybiri May 27, 2014 4:37 AM (in response to Roenaid)There is still the App packager, not totally the same as EXE, you need to publish to HMTL5 only (not SWF) but could lead to a standalone file. Of course you'll miss some features that are not supported for HTML5 output.

9. Re: How can I publish a stand-alone file with Captivate 8?
Mr. Zogg May 27, 2014 12:36 PM (in response to rscharfer)Wow, I have to agree. Not being able to publish EXE and APP is a big problem for me. I suppose it didn't occur to the development team that not everyone has 24/7 internet access.

10. Re: How can I publish a stand-alone file with Captivate 8?
Lilybiri May 27, 2014 12:41 PM (in response to Mr. Zogg)You can still publish to PDF, or use the app packager, but I have no idea whatsoever why this feature was taken away.

11. Re: How can I publish a stand-alone file with Captivate 8?
TLCMediaDesign May 27, 2014 1:22 PM (in response to rscharfer)There are plenty of swf to exe converters online and free.
-
12. Re: How can I publish a stand-alone file with Captivate 8?
Roenaid May 28, 2014 2:34 AM (in response to TLCMediaDesign)Free online converters aren't the point. Very far from the point in fact.
Captivate has recently changed from a monthly to a yearly subscription meaning those of us who only needed it sporadically are forced to pay more. Also it hasn't been included in the Adobe Cloud to whom we also pay a subscription. All fine but then they starting whipping out features with no notice. As far as I'm concerned I shouldn't have to mess about online looking for glitchy free online converters for what was once a one step process within the software we're paying for. Typos on the manual and on the website page are misleading (since changed from Monday), it was one of the things I looked for when checking out the specs for Captivate 8.
Yes publishing to PDF and the APP Packager are wonderful if that's what the client wants but not much use when it expressly isn't what they want.

13. Re: How can I publish a stand-alone file with Captivate 8?
PrashP May 30, 2014 6:31 AM (in response to Mr. Zogg)Publishing to PDF will give you an interactive file like a exe and will be smaller, we used the exe for client review, but the PDF will serve the same purpose plus anyone with Acrobat can also mark up the file and send it back so it has a purpose.
-
14. Re: How can I publish a stand-alone file with Captivate 8?
Lilybiri May 30, 2014 6:36 AM (in response to PrashP)I proposed PDF as well, but there are some problems: present versions of Adobe Reader don't have Flash embedded, which means that users will have first to install it. That can be a show stopper.
-
15. Re: How can I publish a stand-alone file with Captivate 8?
Roenaid May 30, 2014 6:44 AM (in response to PrashP)Again I have no doubt that the PDF is excellent and works very well and has a purpose if that's what the client wants.
But if it's not what the client ultimately wants then it's of no use in the particular circumstance. Not all clients can be persuaded to change their workflow just because you can't give them what you previously gave them without any issue. They will look elsewhere for what they want.
Captivate can produce many wonderful file types/packages etc. but it also removed file types that are still relevant to the customer.
Repeatedly pointing out that the other file types are useful isn't a solution.

EthanHawk Jun 19, 2014 12:22 AM (in response to rscharfer)Web widgets don't work in a pdf, as far as i can tell either.

18. Re: How can I publish a stand-alone file with Captivate 8?
Richard Broom Aug 21, 2014 8:37 PM (in response to cbeggshinkson)Frankly I am a little tired of Adobe stonewalling on the issue of removing exe and dmg publication facility from Adobe Captivate 8. What a load of flimsy excuses from Adobe!!!! In Cap 7 I exported to exe and dog all the time and I truly miss this facility. Why does Adobe remove a perfectly good facility when upgrading?
It all makes me believe that Captivate 8 was rushed out without much thought other than to get a 'not working correctly' responsive design bit built in. Did they not think about customer research?
And so, I've just paid over £300 to upgrade to a version of Captivate (8) I won't be using much. This disgusts me and I am sure I am not alone.
And yes, why is Captivate not part of Creative Cloud? I ask this question and I have asked it before. Adobe will NEVER answer this question.
Adobe. Please try and LISTEN to what your customers are saying.

Mr. Zogg Aug 22, 2014 5:54 PM (in response to Richard Broom)No Richard, you're not alone. I agree completely with your comments and am equally baffled by the Captivate's team "process, whatever it is.

Reflektions Sep 30, 2014 7:05 PM (in response to rscharfer)File > Export to Flash. Havent yet tried it, but if it works, there's your answer why they removed it. Use a product no-one wants to buy lol.

21. Re: How can I publish a stand-alone file with Captivate 8?
Captiv8r Sep 30, 2014 7:18 PM (in response to Reflektions)Perhaps try publishing as Flash SWF, then create an Aggregator project and add the SWF. Publish the Aggregator as an EXE.
Cheers... Rick
