1. Re: Is there a plugin for indesign that allows you to layout a website?
[Jongware] May 28, 2014 7:34 AM (in response to Sam1234)Opinions may differ, but anyway, here is mine: InDesign has not been designed to design web sites with. So
1. Quit InDesign.
2. Start DreamWeaver.
3. Create your layout for a website in DreamWeaver.
InDesign is not meant for, suitable, or likely to, create web sites with. Any functionality it may have that resemble web capabilities (e.g., "adding HTML tags to character or paragraph styles") are only to slightly ease a transform of an existing document to something that resembles usable HTML.

BobLevine May 28, 2014 7:38 AM (in response to [Jongware])Or use Muse. The bottom line is that you’re asking how to use a hammer as a wrench.
Wrong tool for the job.

[Jongware] May 28, 2014 7:47 AM (in response to BobLevine)Ah, I was wondering what web-app Adobe currently used. Go-Live, DW? No, it was Muse. Still need to try that one, but from what I have seen I'd say "now there is an app designed to design web sites with".

DerekC1000 May 28, 2014 7:49 AM (in response to Sam1234)Not a plugin but a separate program – Adobe Muse. If you know InDesign and you're a member of the Creative Cloud, it comes as part of it and it's easy for graphic designers to create good looking websites with Muse.

John Mensinger May 28, 2014 8:16 AM (in response to Sam1234)I agree with Jongware. Dreamweaver is the correct tool. However, if you are not well initiated when it comes to HTML/CSS, among other things, Dreamweaver will pose a fairly steep learning curve. If you are a CC subscriber, you may want to have a look at Muse. "Hand-coder" types may frown, or even shudder, at the throught of Muse-generated source code, but it's the closest thing to an InDesign-like layout tool for web sites.

6. Re: Is there a plugin for indesign that allows you to layout a website?
BobLevine May 28, 2014 7:59 AM (in response to [Jongware])Muse has come a long, long way since its introduction.
While Dreamweaver is still the go to app for heavy lifting, anyone interested in using InDesign for web is going to be far better served with Muse.
And let’s not leave out WordPress here.

7. Re: Is there a plugin for indesign that allows you to layout a website?
Willi Adelberger May 28, 2014 8:08 AM (in response to Sam1234)The best tool from Adobe to create and design web sites is Dreamweaver.
But if you need to publish content from InDesign you have to do the following:
- Work completely with paragraph, character and object styles.
- Don't use manual overrides!
- In all these style go to the section tags for EPUB and HTML export.
- There define the tags and classes
- Export your InDesign file to HTML
- Use CSS which is also used (and defined) in Dreamweaver.
If you are strict here you will get a useable code and only limited edits are needed.

8. Re: Is there a plugin for indesign that allows you to layout a website?
Sam1234 May 28, 2014 8:10 AM (in response to Sam1234)Thanks everyone, yes I am aware that indesign is not for creating websites, however as a designer I hate the restrictions based on using applications like dreamweaver, and was wondering if there is a solution. I am aware that these restrictions are there for a reason, but thinking perhaps there had been some development on this.
RE Muse, I was unaware that it existed, so I will give that a bash.
