New Mac Pro conflicts with CC

    Jimcoulter Community Member

I just bought a new 12 core Mac Pro- fully loaded with the best graphics card, Ram and 1 TB memory. Along with that I bought a Sonnet 3 slot Thunderbolt Pcie card chassis for my Red Rocket and a Sonnet 2 card slot for my AJA Kona 3G card. I also purchased a Pegasus Promise Thunderbolt RAID and 2 Thunderbolt Apple Cinema displays. With all this I bought the latest version of Adobe CC. You'd think that with my setup Premiere CC would playback footage super smoothly. It does NOT! It plays back choppy and the sound is also choppy (intermittent) I also see digital glitches in the video while playing back (also intermittent)

I spoke to an Adobe tech support person about it. He admitted that the new Mac Pro's graphic card has some issues with PP CC. Has anyone heard of this??? I see that some people are having issues but no one has specifically said what the real problem is. The Adobe support guy said Adobe is aware of this and is working on it... but my God the Mac Pro has been out now for several months and they still haven't fixed the issue??

The playback issues I'm seeing are unacceptable! I own a professional Production House and we rely on our systems to work flawlessly. We had been editing on a 2008 Mac Pro running CS6 and did not have any of these issues! Honestly I did not see this coming! Is this strictly an Adobe issue or could it be an issue with my Aja Kona 3G card or with my new Mac Pro???

The support tech took control of my desktop and told me there was nothing he could do for me. He said I would just have to wait until Adobe fixes it with a 'patch' When I asked him when that would be the answer was 'I don't know'

Now if you had just spent $15,000 on a new computer system and suddenly discovered that you're worse off than you were with a dated 2008 Mac Pro and CS6 software- what would your reaction to that answer be? Un- freakin'-believable!

I would really appreciate some help and guidance here.

I probably can't be much help except:

"could it be an issue with my Aja Kona 3G card or with my new Mac Pro???"

You can rule this out at least by uninstalling the driver and the hardware, and see if your issue disappears.

Otherwise, I read in another forum about a user who has a new MacPro, and he said it's working well for him.

Same problem here. We just purchased a couple of maxed-out Mac Pros for our corporate video producers. Premiere Pro CC is practically unusable. Terrible performance, weird colored artifacts, stuttering playback, crashing app. We are so pissed considering what we spent on these systems. We are actually going back to our iMacs since they worked flawlessly. No unusual hardware here. Just external Thunderbolt storage. Some people suspect incompatibility with the D700 GPUs but I have heard of the same problems with the D500s. Also, we have been told by Adobe it is an issue with 10.9.3 although we are still on 10.9.2. Guess will have to wait for a fix. Unbelievable.

We just bought two new Mac Pros for our office too and they won't open any of the Premiere projects from the older machines, saying that codecs in the sequences do not exist. Since we haven't been able to work on the projects that we still live from last week, we haven't been able to test the performance of the Mac Pros in premiere yet, going back to the older machines until they projects will open on the Mac Pros. Adobe tech support told me that the sequences were "corrupt" and that's why the projects wouldn't open. I found that hard to believe.

Hi Jimga- glad to know I'm not the only one having stuttery playback issues! I have been following several Adobe Forum posts regarding the new Mac Pro and very few people are complaining about the stuttering playback of video and audio. Mostly seeing posts about the rendering out of AME issues. I am having that as well but nothing makes editing a project more difficult and frustrating than crappy playback!

Is anyone else having the choppy video and audio cutting in and out intermittently problems?

BTW- here's another big thread on the New Mac pro/ PP CC issue:  RENDER PROBLEM - AME and Premiere Pro CC causing random horizontal lines on H.264 Renders
