no sound with .mts video clips LR 5.3

Hi Im importing video clips from a camcorder in .mts format (is on the list of compatible video)  there is no sound played or captured. The files are silent when exported, however there is sound when the clips are viewed in other software. I get the same problem in Mac Maverick and Windows 8.

I cant see any mute settings in LR that I might have turned off.

Should I be looking at my import settings?

Can the sound volume be controlled during play back when there is some?

I have the same problem, amongst other frustrations with mts files in Lightroom 5.4.  Lightroom still cannot play audio in Dolby surround sound format.

Bummer. Until problem resolved by Adobe (assuming it's their "fault"), consider transcoding (or re-formatting to different file type) to a more playable format prior to importing - e.g. mp4. Dunno if that will help, but it may be worth a try in the meantime, if it's important to you..

ffmbc (windows) or ffmpeg (mac) are free command line utilities which will do the job "perfectly".

Thanks for the suggestion Rob. I have found that Picasa will import my mts files and play sound and also let me geocode the files. Also the Sony PlayMemories has improved lately and isn't too bad (nowhere near the features of Lightroom). I do like that PlayMemories lets me do rough edits of the mts files without any lossyness (is that a word?). So, although I really wanted to get stuck into using Lightroom for my videos as well as my still images, I will just wait until a version comes out that can deal with the Sony files better.
