Reader XI - How do I hide the Navigation Pane by default?

Every time I open a pdf I have to manually hide the Navigation Pane as it is taking up valuable real estate on my screen. Is there a way to hide it by default in Reader XI? I've seen it mentioned elsewhere but I've failed to find a satisfactory answer.

Thanks in advance!

Hi rammo123,

For Adobe Reader XI, I change the below mentioned registry key

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AcroExch.Document.11\shell\Read\command

To read:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe" /A "navpanes=0" "%1"

Using regedit in windows 8 under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AcroExch.Document.11\ I'm only showing "(Default)", "BrowseInPlace", and "EditFlags".  There is no "shell\Read\command".  Is there a different registry key I should edit in Windows 8?

Thanks for the help!

shell\Read\command are subkeys of AcroExch.Document.11, not values:

the subkeys under shell don't include read/command.  Where would I be able find it?

For me that works well but only when opening a document from outside Reader (say from File Explorer), when I open from inside Reader the navpane is displayed.

I found how to hide the Navigator Panel in Acrobat XI.

Edit HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Acrobat.Document.11\shell\Read\command

to read "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 11.0\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe" /A "navpanes=0" "%1"

I wish Adobe would make this an easy option.
