"unable to locate paper capture recognition service [etc.]"

    dbcole

Sometimes when I OCR a document, all works fine. Other times I get "unable to locate paper capture recognition service [etc.]"

I have suffered with this issues and across multiple releases of Acrobat and endless product updates (Currently, I'm on 10.1.10), but Adobe keeps failing to fix the problem.

      What is the REAL solution?

          Hi dbcole,

There might be a possiblity that the files needed by OCR to run successfully were not copied properly or were re-located by mistake after installtion. Please make sure that you have the files highlighted in the snapshots at the depicted locations.

            Hi Rave,

Thanks for your suggestion. Alas, that does not seem to be my problem. I say this for two reasons.

First, I checked my plug_ins folder (" C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\Acrobat\plug_ins\PaperCapture") and verified that I have the exact same list of DLLs as yours. My copies even have the identical kbyte sizes as yours and all (except the OCRLibraryInf.dll) have identical "Date modified" settings. See below...

            140710 PaperCapture, my DLLs list.jpg

Second, about 60% of the time, OCR'ing works perfectly. Then later, on a substantially similar image, it will refuse to function.

I'm guessing the underlying problem might be a virtual storage shortage. Your thoughts?

            Thank you,

            Dave Cole
