1. Re: 24GB h264 file reduces to only 10GB disc usage in Blu Ray - why?

What is the length in minutes of the video? What is the datarate of the mp4? Was Encore set to "automatic," or do you know the datarate you transcoded to? These are all relevant to whether your final is more compressed than the original.Does it look lower quality?

ricardo_lacombe Jun 15, 2014 12:32 PM (in response to Stan Jones)Thanks for the reply Stan.
the video is 96 minutes long.
It was encoded from Premiere on a 2 pass variable bit rate set to between 30 and 40 bit rate.
it doesn't look like a drop in quality, but 24gb to 10gb seems significant.
where would I have Encore on anything other than Automatic. Where would I optimise within Encore please?

John T Smith Jun 15, 2014 12:40 PM (in response to ricardo_lacombe)I don't do BluRay, but if Encore had to re-transcode your file, and therefore changed the size, it would seem to ME that you did not export a BluRay legal file

ricardo_lacombe Jun 15, 2014 12:51 PM (in response to John T Smith)Thanks John. I've done H264 MP4 to BluRay before and don't ever recall it reducing disc usage this far.

ricardo_lacombe Jun 15, 2014 12:58 PM (in response to ricardo_lacombe)Sorted it (I think).
As Stan suggested I have taken it off Automatic settings and upped some of the quality settings - now using 20gb, which seems more like it.
