1. Re: What are the differences between Photoshop CC 14.2.1 and Photoshop CC 2014?
GoodSeed Jun 19, 2014 11:53 AM (in response to Rafael Aviles)I would like to know this as well. I was under the impression that Photoshop CC( and any other CC product) would be the end of the line and would just continue to be upgraded (thus the point of the whole membership idea).

Warunicorn Jun 19, 2014 12:27 PM (in response to Rafael Aviles)Adobe Photoshop CC new features
Think of CC 2014 as a clean slate version that doesn't have some of the "features" that were part of version 14. (Oil Paint filter was removed, as were flash-based plug-ins like Mini Bridge, etc.)

3. Re: What are the differences between Photoshop CC 14.2.1 and Photoshop CC 2014?
Noel Carboni Jun 19, 2014 12:31 PM (in response to Rafael Aviles)Also, plug-ins are not migrated automatically.
Standard conservative advice applies: Keep the old one for a while. If, after a time, you find you're 100% on the new one and never have to go back to the old one then you can feel comfortable in reclaiming the disk space.
Me, I keep all the old ones around forever. If nothing else I find it helpful to be able to fire up an old version to help out here on the forum.

Rafael Aviles Jun 19, 2014 12:48 PM (in response to Warunicorn)Thanks, Warunicorn and Noel. But, why are there two CC versions? I understood the difference between CS6 and CC, but I still struggle with the concept of two CC versions...

Warunicorn Jun 19, 2014 12:53 PM (in response to Rafael Aviles)So you can use the features in the older version that were removed in the newer version. (Just in case, anyway.)
That and so we don't get, "Adobe, y u remove Oil Paint!?" posts.

Noel Carboni Jun 19, 2014 1:11 PM (in response to Rafael Aviles)Only Adobe can answer that.

Well, we definitely need distinct milestone releases happening every so often to be able to identify a specific version for things like books, training, certifications, coursework, file format changes, tech support, featureset identification, o/s compatibility, hardware and third-party plugin support, and on…
Otherwise if we have no major version numbering, then we float into the future forever with the same moniker and nobody can anchor around these things.
As for the differences between the major version handles, there are hundreds of new features, performance improvements, and other enhancements since the initial CC – and almost a thousand since CS6. Here's a summary list linking all the details and comparisons for each application:
What Are the Differences Between Adobe CC 2014 vs. CC 2013 vs. CS6?
As Noel said, if you're comfortable and set with the new one then you can remove the old one, the same as it's always worked with Adobe in the past... You can always re-access [install and use] the previous versions (CC 2013 and CS6) in the Creative Cloud archive if you ever need or want to; it's included as part of your membership.

tonyteehee50 Jul 18, 2014 11:16 AM (in response to ProDesignTools)Doesn't sound like much of an upgrade if the 2014 is taking stuff away. As they say in pontoon I think i will stick.

Noel Carboni Jul 18, 2014 11:47 AM (in response to tonyteehee50)Not upgrading makes little sense considering it's a new application. Installing it doesn't close off any ability to use the old one.

Agreed but Adobe has built a rod for its own back. They have constructed one of the most opaque and confusing major build numbering systems I've seen, similar to Microsoft Windows version numbering.
I don't blame any newbie for not understanding the differences between CC and CC 2014 - or even why a completely new major number was necessary. That took me by surprise too. Plus keeping CC so prominently in the CC 2014 moniker is guaranteed to confuse.
What users can expect to see on their computer after upgrading to CC 2014 is also poorly explained on the Adobe website. Basic courtesy is lacking. The Update button is poorly labelled in the Cloud app - should say Upgrade. Few people expect to see a brand new app sitting inside its own distinct folder on their hard drive and few understand that the CC icon on their desktop still launches CC, not CC 2014. None of this is explained anywhere by Adobe.
Build number works OK to distinguish between them.

Noel Carboni Jul 18, 2014 12:46 PM (in response to John Waller)I honestly believe that Marketing schools must teach that version numbering should be made as cryptic as possible, presumably so that everyone talks about it.
Doesn't make ANY sense to my engineer mind, but I don't do Marketing. I chose honest work instead.

Yep, and forums must forever be the places where the differences are patiently explained time and again to each confused and frustrated newbie.
Adobe clearly employ engineering geniuses to work on their processing algorithms then confuse the world with seemingly simple things like version numbering.

People power can win out in the end. Look at 'The New iPad'. A name widely ignored by users who called it by the more sensible name 'iPad 3'. AFAIK, Apple gave up pushing _their_ name for it.

Well, the new iPad is actually the 5th generation and is called the "iPad Air"... It is significantly smaller, lighter, and faster than previous iPads, while retaining the same screen size.
Used to have an iPad 2 and traded up; very happy to have done so.
