Wish i hadn't bloody converted all my RAWs to DNG now too.

I would be confident that .DNG will last though you can always export to 16 bit tiff for future proofing.

I guess most hobbyists and consumers already know about CC and have rejected it?

Pretty much everyone I know has jumped all over Lr and Photoshop for - note - £8.78 a month.

And when it costs £28.78 a month ..... at Adobe's whim?   Nothing to stop them doing so when you are trapped ... as indeed you are.  Never known a money centric multi-national to not lever a maximum profit when available ..... they would be nuts not to!

Of course us long-term Adobe users already owned many versions of Photoshop and Creative Suites anyway (I have Photoshop 3 (and I mean 3 not CS3) to CS6 on my shelf now - lol .

CC is for the noobs and commercial people.

          Which are you?

....Lightroom can be purchased by traditional perpetual licence or via subsciption

              is that right?

I must be missing something then as i cant seem to see a way to buy Lightroom outright now on the Lightroom webpage. Can only see through subscription now.

It's still available via the products page.  A link is below

I can't locate a FAQ or terms and condition page for the new $9.99 Creative Cloud Photography deal.  It was on the page where you signed up for the old deal but there's no sign of it there now.

Small print that is specific to the $9.99 product, as things not even basis information regarding the product you are signing up for is listed, such as what's included in the bundle, what happens if you cancel your subscription, how many computers can it be installed, what payments methods are available, how is payments is taken and all manner of other information that you would normally receive before signing a contact of this type.

I'm guessing that the answers are the same as for the previous $9.99 deal, for all but the first of those question but without any product specific terms there's no way of knowing for sure.  It would be insane to sign up for the deal without scrutinizing the contact details first.

It looks like we are going to have to wait until Lightoom 6 for the "Modify Graduated and Radial Filter masks with a brush"  that are included the Adobe Photoshop Camera RAW 8.5 plug-in for CC .  For landscape Photographers like myself who utilize the Graduated filter on a regular basis these are likely to warrant the upgrade costs alone.

                                      Features:

                                      • Modify Graduated and Radial Filter masks with a brush:
                                        • After adding or selecting a Graduated or Radial Filter instance, click the new ‘Brush’ mode (next to existing ‘New’ and ‘Edit’ mode buttons) to reveal brush controls that allow you to modify the selected mask.
                                        • Use the ‘Brush +’ and ‘Brush -’ icon buttons in the brush controls pane to add to or erase from the selected mask.
                                        • Press the ‘Clear’ button to remove all brush modifications from the currently selected mask.
                                        • When a Graduated or Radial Filter instance is selected, Shift-K can be used to enter and leave brush modification mode.
                                        • For more information, check out this video here
                                      • Mask visualization is now available for the Graduated and Radial Filters. Use the Mask checkbox at the bottom of the Local Corrections pane or press ‘Y’ to toggle the mask overlay.
                                      • Added Per-Panel Preview default toggle button
                                        • If the current panel’s settings are not the ACR defaults, clicking the new Per-panel Toggle Button will reset the panel to the ACR defaults.
                                        • Clicking the button again will restore the previous settings.
                                        • This is a standalone feature, separate from the new Preview controls.
                                        • The changes are applied to the main view; if you have both the Before and After panes visible, changes will appear in the After panel.

Yes it’s a nice feature for landscape photographers. I do have the Photography Plan and can use the plus and minus brushes with the filters but it’s obviously a more complicated workflow. I think all the emphasis in LR5.5 has been on mobile. In fact at the presentation in New York yesterday, the point was made that iPhone images on Flickr outnumber all digital cameras combined.

So it looks like we have a period to wait for full integration between the two apps which should be the main selling point for the Photography Plan. I really want to do all raw editing in LR and only go into Photoshop for pixel editing, layers masks etc.

That doesn't seem to be that much of a big deal as CaptureOne Pro 7 has had it for Graduated Filters for a while.

I will be really disappointed if there isn't

                                            * some kind of laptop mode. I shouldn't have to use an iPhone or iPad to do PC work with Lightroom.

                                            * Facial recognition. It is embarassing that LR still doesn't have this.

Good morning Captain obvious! Of course it can RUN on a laptop (and even OS X Laptops! You forgot about those!) but I'm talking about being mobile with my Surface Pro 3. My main library sits on my workstation. I should be able to take my Surface Pro 3 out and do all of the same stuff I can do with Lightroom Mobile on iPad on my SP3. But I can't. I am still scratching my head at how the iPad got a mobile review mode before PCs -- something that has been requested since the early Lightroom betas!

i am surprised that Lightroom is not using all the cores on a Mac Pro.  The Windows version is definitely multi-threaded (more than 50 threads reported by resource monitor) and all 8 cores of my i7 (4 real and 4 psudo) showing as being used when I do anything intensive.

Sorry but Keith is not correct - $9.99 is £5.88 (rounded up) plus vat = £7.06  where does £8.78 come from other than out of an Adobe marketters head or the enormous lets rip of United Kingdom brigade.

Now Adobe has finally released their website changes has anyone in here attempted to get past the creative cloud to buy stand-alone products (those that still exist)?  It is even more befuddled and obscured than before(deliberate).

This forum really is just an Adobe mouthpiece dominated by childish bullies.  Apologies to those that truly try to help and are genuinely critical.  You are the stuff of forums.  I really do wonder how this site came to be in the state?  I suggest (to Adobe) a rebuild including of personalities.

Or apologists. Or childish. Or (are you five?) bullies: it just makes us demonstrably better-informed than you. (Maybe that makes us "experts" - in which case you must be surrounded by them).

Or is this how you deal with people telling you that you're wrong again? Calling them playground names?

Now that's infantile. As trolls usually are.

                                                                    bitm07,

(personally, I'd love to see HSL added to the locals).

Regarding sharpening locals - I too would love to be able to vary not only sharpening mask but radius (and detail). Speaking of which - I think sharpness falloff lens correction would be a boon to image quality - I lump those together because an increased radius sharpening applied using a radial gradient (or better: multiple overlapping) is a fair approximation to a true (e.g. profile-based) falloff correction.

Regarding whites & blacks - they can't be adjusted locally, as you know, but you can kinda get the same effect by adjusting them globally, then using highlights and/or shadows sliders locally to compensate.

PS - I will be very surprised if face recognition is not in Lr6 (since there are signs of it in Lr5).

(personally, I'd love to see HSL added to the locals).

I have an iMac with 2x 27" NEC's outboard, I could definitely use a Loupe monitor in both portrait and landscape on color calibrated displays while the main interface ran on the iMac screen. And LR5 is incapable of recognizing my current 27" NEC in portrait orientation as a legitimate display for the second monitor. Every time LR5 launches I get the second display window on top of the main interface on the iMac screen. I have to move it over to the portrait monitor, and resize it every time. If I make the mistake of selecting Window/Secondary Display/Show, LR unhelpfully puts the secondary display fullscreen on the landscape NEC, exactly where I don't want it. Talk about frustrating.

Just combine them (and their tabs) and make all the closed tabs smaller to make more room. They are stupidly cartoon-large as it is.

Notice the intelligence displayed in autosizing things based on paper size without having to make print profiles for every damn time you want to change paper, orientation or borders.

Also there are lens profile and geometry corrections in Lightroom, CA correction, etc. etc and, of course, Aperture was dumped for iPhoto because of the following statistics:

I mean EXIF, ITPC, ALL of the metadata and EVERYTHING you can (optionally) see in the right column in the library module.

It doesn't however tell you what mode you were shooting in or whether the flash fired… etc. (But I want the develop module to be able to show EVERYTHING right down to the copyright and metadata.)
