1. Re: Relink media every time I open project.
JSS1138 Jun 28, 2014 4:49 PM (in response to JamesReardon)This isn't normal, at least not under ideal conditions.
Let's check those conditions. All drives are internal, no external drives or network locations?

JamesReardon Jun 28, 2014 7:22 PM (in response to JSS1138)Hi Jim, thanks for the response.
Yes all files for this particular project are living on a RAID1 4tb external stardom drive, linked to my i7 32gb iMac. I've also had some issues with the drive ejecting itself but once I made sure I'd switched off the power saver mode that's less frequent. Last time I lost the media (yesterday) I was working on the project at the time and there was no signs of the drive having ejected itself. Prior to the migration i had the project working in an identical set up except that the project files were on the iMac HDD, and no issues. It's a bit of a mammoth project i should say, with >10hrs 2.5k footage and a timeline that is looking pretty elaborate.
Any suggestions much appreciated, james

That would be a no, then. Conditions are not ideal.
Transfer all assets over to an internal drive, and see if you notice the same thing happening.

JamesReardon Jun 28, 2014 9:39 PM (in response to JSS1138)Hi Jim,
With the quantity of media tied to this project that's not an option I'm afraid. Maybe it's a hardware issue with this particular drive, will test. I assume this isn't a systemic problem with Prem Pro as I imagine the bulk of users like myself rely on thunderbolt arrays to handle raw footage.
Cheers, j

Get larger internals. Drives aren't that pricey, these days.

cscooper2013 Jun 29, 2014 5:40 PM (in response to JamesReardon)JamesReardon,
External drives are fine. Jim Simon may use internal, RAID5 100% of the time, But the rest of us frail human editors use a regular mix of internal and external drives, RAID0 - RAID5, or no RAID at all without issue. Both USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt are capable of transferring a whole lot more data per second than ANY hard drive (or even many SSDs) are capable of. The only caveat to this is if you're using a SLOW drive to begin with. But in any case, Hard drive X in external form will perform just as well as the same hard drive internally. To Jim's point, however, internal drives are certainly less expensive than external drives. But more to the point, I'd be very surprised if your external drive situation was the cause of your "offline" clips. Wish I could help. Carry on.

Just a fiddly quirk of moving big projects around I guess. Keeping calm & carrying on

CraigTonkin Jun 29, 2014 9:48 PM (in response to cscooper2013)I agree with csooper. EXTERNAL RAID drives are perfectly fine.
