6. Re: Premier Pro 2014 is very sluggish
mdsunc30 Jun 26, 2014 12:48 PM (in response to Kevin Monahan)Hi Kevin,
Thank you for your help in advance. I'm using Premiere Pro 8.0, Mavericks 10.9.3, source footage is AVCHD (it happens at all frame rates), I've been having crashes when rendering, when playing back footage, when exporting...I have Red Giant Color Suite installed. Computer is brand new Mac Pro 6 Core, AMD D500s, 512 GB SSD internal hard drive, 32 GB RAM, I have a GRAID 6TB Thunderbolt hard drive as well as a couple other USB drives connected, I have a Matrox MX02 mini connected. When I'm using the hardware acceleration in AME it crashes almost every time i export. When I use software only it does not crash on export, but it still crashes during rendering, playback, and just while doing normal editing things. The export crashing happened with premiere 7.2.2 but the other crashing did not happen. Now that I'm on 8.0 I'm getting crashing all over the place.
Thanks!
Mike

SAPOL Jun 26, 2014 3:28 PM (in response to Kevin Monahan)Kevin hi -
I am on an iMac - OSX 10.7.5 - 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7 -
RAM - 16GB 13333 MHz DDR3
Graphics Card - AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048 MB
I have been using Prem Pro CC since it's release - with no problems at all - it is very stable and works very well.
BUT -
Now I have started a project on Premier Pro 2014 - and it has not been very productive.
I have been getting the Beach Ball spinning many times a day - for no apparent reason - so with all the on going crashes and
re starts it has been very slow going.
I would like to be able to open my current project in Prem Pro CC - so that I can work as quickly as I would like to be working.
But - it seems that the 2014 project file does not open in CC - which is very disappointing.
I also tried to import the 2014 project file into CC via Bridge - but that does not work either.
Why isn't a 2014 file back ward compatible with CC ???
Now I have decided to leave Premier Pro 2014 alone - even if I have to start from scratch again in CC.
At least that way I won't be wasting my time trying to deal with constant crashes.
I am very disappointed with Premier Pro 2014 - I was looking forward to being able to use the new features and edit more productivley and
efficiently.

Check out the system requirements. You must be running OS X 10.8, or later. Update and you should have a better experience.

Backward compatibility is not a feature of Premiere Pro. Sorry.
Thanks,

SAPOL Jun 26, 2014 3:39 PM (in response to Kevin Monahan)Thanks for the tip Kevin - I will now update to OS 10.8 and see what happens with Premier Pro 2014.
If it is that simple I will be wrapped.

13. Re: Premier Pro 2014 is very sluggish
mdsunc30 Jul 3, 2014 12:06 PM (in response to Kevin Monahan)I uninstalled my Red Giant software and then reinstalled the updated version and I have not noticed the crashing like I was before. Thanks for the advice as that seemed to help out quite a bit. I am still having an issue where nearly every time I export from Premiere Pro to AME and have AME set to Open CL, about half way through the export AME will crash. If I set AME to "Software Only" the export goes through without any problems. This occurs when I'm exporting clips that have the Red Giant filters and it also occurs when I'm exporting clips with no filters at all. I would really like to be able to export using the GPU Acceleration because it will speed up my workflow tremendously (especially when I'm exporting long sequences with lots of filters). Please let me know if you have any idea why this is happening as well as what might fix it.
Thanks!
Mike

BobanskyBh Jul 3, 2014 2:04 PM (in response to SAPOL)Hi,
this is the common solution for laggy/crashing PPCC2014, worked for lots of people....
In the finder menu click and hold on the GO menu.
Hold the option button and the User library menu will show up.
Click the User Library.
In that folder go to preferences and find the adobe folder.
Right click on adobe folder and click get info.
In the Sharing & Permissions section there should be three names. All should say Read & Write next to them.
Unlock the lock, switch them all to read and write. Then click on the little gear directly under the names or to to the left of the lock and in the pulldown click on "apply to enclosed items. Then lock the lock again.
Now go to your OS Hardrive and click on Users, your user name, Documents.
Find the adobe folder there.
The lock the lock again.
Wait 1 minute.
Then launch Premiere.

SAPOL Jul 17, 2014 7:51 PM (in response to Kevin Monahan)Kevin -
I have now updated to OS X 9.4 - after being told that Premier Pro 2014 has been optimised to take full advantage of the latest Mac OS.
I was very much hoping that I could now be editing seamlessly with Premier Pro 2014 - after the latest Mac OS update.
Sadly tho - I have had lots of freeze frames on the time line - or - else the picture just turns black.
I have been trying to get a project edited for most of yesterday - but this morning I have given up on working with Premier Pro 2014.
The time line plays and the sound plays - but the picture has either frozen - or it as gone to black.
This happens quiet often - and then everything seems to be OK for a short while - before it happens again.
What could be causing this ???
I have now gone back too editing in Premier Pro CC - which has always been very stable and works very well - with no problems at all.
I am on a 2012 iMac 3.4 GHz - Intel Core i7 - with 16GB RAM
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks kindly
Emmil...

Glad to hear that the updated plug-ins have solved at least of your issues.
Regarding AME crashing on export, are you running OS X 10.9.4 yet? Your other post indicates you are on OS X 10.9.3. If you are on OS X 10.9.3, please update to OS X 10.9.4.
Thanks,

Before this update I was editing a 4k timeline with no issues, no its freezing and super sluggish. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software and reset my preferences and still same results. Im on MAV 10.9.4 8 core MacPro SSD 24 gigs Ram.

22. Re: Premier Pro 2014 is very sluggish
Kevin Monahan Jul 29, 2014 1:06 PM (in response to AzzieScott)Hi AzzieScott,
You have symptoms of the permissions in your preference folders set to "read only." They need to be set to read/write. See this blog post: fixing permissions problem that impedes start of Adobe applications | After Effects region of interest
Note that you are not merely resetting preferences, you're changing permissions of those folders. After you've done so, report back with the results.
Thanks,

deathbychinatv Jul 29, 2014 1:09 PM (in response to SAPOL)I have a very similar problem. I have the latest Mac Pro and when I installed 2014, I can't export movies anymore without getting the error message "system out of application memory." The activity monitor shows Premier and the Kernel task sucking huge amounts of memory. Anybody know a workaround? This sucks!

AzzieScott Jul 29, 2014 4:43 PM (in response to Kevin Monahan)Hi Kevin, I'm going to try that and see if it works, but my question is WHY? do we need to do this? should PPCC automatically configure itself. its seems a little backwards. Its like hey everyone, upgrade to the latest with all these great features, but you need to go into these settings and configure your preferences for it to work properly! Just curious?

Permissions are set correctly if you do a clean install of Mac OS X 10.9. However, if you update OS X (much more common these days), the updating process from one version of OS X to the next version of OS X sets the permissions incorrectly. We are working with our partners at Apple to fix the issue, but with the current version, some users are still having problems. This is the issue I see hitting Mac people on Mavericks most frequently.
Bobansky has the method here: Re: Premier Pro 2014 is very sluggish
