1. Re: how can I make CC my default image editor instead of CS6 on a MAC platform
Noel Carboni Jul 2, 2013 4:24 PM (in response to Daniel B Anderson)Though I am not at my workstation right now, I believe all you need to do is run Bridge and go into the preferences. There you'll find the ability to configure the default application for a given file type.

2. Re: how can I make CC my default image editor instead of CS6 on a MAC platform
gener7 Jul 2, 2013 5:50 PM (in response to Daniel B Anderson)Bridge CC is a separate install from Photoshop CC (It used to be bundled in older versions of Photoshop). Have you also installed it yet?

3. Re: how can I make CC my default image editor instead of CS6 on a MAC platform
Trevor.Dennis Jul 2, 2013 6:17 PM (in response to gener7)Bridge will automatically install from the Application Manager, if you do anything that invokes it - like use the Cmd Opt o shortcut from Photoshop, and I suspect it would be hard to avoid having it install after using Photoshop for a day or two.

4. Re: how can I make CC my default image editor instead of CS6 on a MAC platform
Daniel B Anderson Jul 2, 2013 6:36 PM (in response to gener7)I actually haven't used or opened Bridge since Lightroom was introduced, so no I haven't downloaded Bridge. I remember having this same problem when I upgraded from CS5 to CS6 but can't remember the setting that I used to make the new version of Photoshop the default version when I open a .psd. I know I didn't go through Bridge to do it though.

5. Re: how can I make CC my default image editor instead of CS6 on a MAC platform
gener7 Jul 2, 2013 8:40 PM (in response to Daniel B Anderson)If you want to open images in a particular application from the Mac OS. Select a file, then press Cmd i
for the Info dialog as shown below.
1. Select Photoshop CC 2. Click on "Change All" This is for a png file, you will have to repeat for orher formats tou want to open in CC.
If you are using LR, there should be a default editor setting in the program's prefs. I should leave that to someone who knows LR.

6. Re: how can I make CC my default image editor instead of CS6 on a MAC platform
Daniel B Anderson Jul 2, 2013 8:49 PM (in response to gener7)Yes, I tried that approach first but as soon as I click on "change all", my selection of CC.app immediately reverts back to "open with CS6" and I'm right back at the beginning.

7. Re: how can I make CC my default image editor instead of CS6 on a MAC platform
gener7 Jul 2, 2013 9:48 PM (in response to Daniel B Anderson)This indeed is the correct method to change file associations. Try closing all applications (or just restart) and then redo the procedure and restart the computer again. I'm assuming you are running your account as admin and your permissions are "read and write" in the bottom of the Info dialog.
Other ideas: Open the file in Photoshop CC, then try changing it using cmd i
or cmd i, checkmark the file as "locked" and try again.

8. Re: how can I make CC my default image editor instead of CS6 on a MAC platform
Daniel B Anderson Jul 3, 2013 10:02 AM (in response to gener7)Yes, my permissions are "read and write" but I still get in that loop where it reverts back to CS6 as the default. This after restarting, etc. I just spoke to Adobe tech in India and they said was an Apple problem on my desktop but it does the same on my laptop so I don't trust that explanation and I can't seem to get to anyone who just doesn't try to immediately dump it onto Apple. Opening a file and cmd i didn't work either.

9. Re: how can I make CC my default image editor instead of CS6 on a MAC platform
Chris Cox Jul 3, 2013 11:19 AM (in response to Daniel B Anderson)You didn't get all of the explanation, but it is correct.
MacOS maintains a database of which file extension should launch which application, and which file creator code should launch which application. This is part of Apple's "Launch Services" functionality.
You set that information in the Finder as mentioned previously.
But sometimes the launch services database gets corrupted, or fails to update correctly.
See this discussion for how to reset the launch services database:

10. Re: how can I make CC my default image editor instead of CS6 on a MAC platform
OGuenay Aug 14, 2013 12:53 AM (in response to Chris Cox)I tried it the conventional way too (cmd+i, change all) but it reverts everything for me too.
I followed Chris Cox's link and did the steps. Yet it doesn't change anything for me. Normal file type association changes are no Problem for me, but CS6 to CC doesn't work. It keeps reverting to CS6

11. Re: how can I make CC my default image editor instead of CS6 on a MAC platform
Russ Spencer Dec 13, 2013 5:39 AM (in response to Daniel B Anderson)I was having the same problem.
The only way I could get file associations to link back to Photoshop CC from CS6 was by going to prefereces in Bridge CC.

12. Re: how can I make CC my default image editor instead of CS6 on a MAC platform
dstanley1 Jul 5, 2014 6:30 PM (in response to Daniel B Anderson)It seems to be a CC problem as I have never been able to default it to CC. Always goes back to CS6. Thought I would try now that I have CC2014 but still no luck. Come on Adobe get it sorted!

13. Re: how can I make CC my default image editor instead of CS6 on a MAC platform
wes1 Jul 6, 2014 5:06 AM (in response to gener7)Another suggestion along the same line as gener7's is to check for a lock at the lower right corner of the get info window. If it is locked, you must first unlock it to make changes, then lock it again when through. You will need to use your password to open the lock.

14. Re: how can I make CC my default image editor instead of CS6 on a MAC platform
dstanley1 Jul 14, 2014 8:36 PM (in response to Daniel B Anderson)it still doesn't work and has NEVER worked in CC. I have used all the appropriate ways as I am very familiar with Macs. Is it a Mavericks issue?
