1. Re: PPro CC with encore and Dynamic link?
John T Smith Jul 6, 2014 5:56 PM (in response to h2ofun)Dynamic Link only works within the same version... so Premiere Pro CC (or CC2014) do NOT work to Dynamic Link with Encore CS6

h2ofun Jul 6, 2014 6:06 PM (in response to John T Smith)I guess I am staying with CS6 then. I still cannot believe Adobe has made this decision. I would love to talk directly to the person in Adobe and let them try to explain
how taking away this function is making them more money! Guess we can get the person in the room from Microsoft who make the decision in Windows 8 to take
the start menu away. It is coming back, so maybe someone will wake up at Adobe and put Encore back into CC.

John T Smith Jul 6, 2014 6:16 PM (in response to h2ofun)This was NOT Adobe's decision, and there will never be an Encore CC

Stan Jones Jul 6, 2014 6:26 PM (in response to h2ofun)It is frustrating, but the company that owned the software core that Adobe licensed for Encore was bought out and killed. Even the high end Scenarist is no longer available.
Dynamic link between Premiere Pro and Encore worked best for standard definition to DVD, but had more problems for high def to DVD and to Bluray. So many users moved away from dynamic link even before it was no longer possible.
Dynamic link always required a transcode, and changes required reverting and re-transcoding, so the new work flow is not terrible.
This is a video on the new workflow:

h2ofun Jul 7, 2014 10:31 AM (in response to Stan Jones)Thanks everyone for the info. As the one thread stated, if Adobe had just said this up front, a lot of folks, like me, would have at least understood.
Dynamic link might require one transcode per type, BR and DVD, but I could always see the size of the file before I did this and adjust encoding so it
always fit on the disc I wanted the first try!!!
I do not see the work flow new, it is what I used to do years ago. But the reason I stopped using it is never worked the first, or second or .. time.
Meaning, yep, you can encode the project with PP, rather than encore. The issue is when I bring these files into Encore there size is fixed.
Most of my projects I do have a 4 panel 48 thumb nail menu which when encoded, take space. Or when I put some pictures in my encore project with
music, this also takes space. So when I went to do the encore encoding, I had a fixed project output from PPro, then these new assets and these
would never fit on a disc without me having to go back into PPro and re encode my project multiple times. So in my experience, the "new" work flow
is terrible and much much more time consuming then using Dynamic link.
Luckily so far I have no video sources that CS6 does not support, so I guess I am stuck for now. If I ever am forced to CC, then I know how to kludge it,
but boy, what happens further down the road? I never see not encoding my video stuff on virtual DVD/BR format. I want the menu structure which
streaming does not give you. I would hate to have to go to Sony or something else since I have used Encore for so long.

SAFEHARBOR11 Jul 7, 2014 11:41 AM (in response to Stan Jones)With experience, you should be able to guesstimate how much headroom you need for menus.
A formula that has treated me well for DVD encoding is 560/minutes = bitrate, and then I round down a bit for safety. Two hours = 4.66 and I encode at 4.5 then for example and never run out of space. You must be trying to cut it too close, leave a little safety margin.
There are plenty of bitrate calculators online, so you should not have to encode each project multiple times - DVD-HQ : Bitrate & GOP calculator
I personally prefer creating my assets in AME for this reason - once I finish my menus in Encore, I can have a DVD proof copy in my hands in just a few minutes, as Encore does not need to transcode the video! Can't imagine waiting a few hours at that stage, interrupting the creative process. I can burn a proof and if I find a menu issue, I can immediately fix and re-burn, no wait.

8. Re: PPro CC with encore and Dynamic link?
h2ofun Jul 7, 2014 11:51 AM (in response to SAFEHARBOR11)The issue I had in the past was not the video encoding but when I added a few hundred pictures, with audio and transitions for the pictures, it would blow up the total. I am not aware or an easier way to make the
picture section with some other program. Encore makes is so easy.
Great inputs for encoding size, thanks.
I always let my encodings run overnight so no pressure.
10 ways to make the final project, just the pits one process flow has been taken away for corporate greed.
