    Updating to 2014

    daveinsacto Community Member

      Hello all,

We are operating in a central storage environment, and have been running relatively smoothly since the CC 7.2.2 update. We would like to hear any thoughts on updating globally to CC 2014. We are currently in the middle of cutting 16x1hr episodes for broadcast, and have a bit of trepidation about updating spurring from production nightmares with the 7.2.1 fiasco of December, 2013. I opened one of our projects in CC 2014, it seemed stable on the surface for one day's worth of work, however getting that work back into 7.2.2 via XML proved clumsy with several workarounds, which I won't go into detail here. We have 5 working stations in-house, plus laptops, as well as two stations in a remote location working via HDD. If we update, we have to update as many as 10 machines in unison.  Should we experience unforeseen issues with CC 2014, the amount of work to get back and cozy into 7.2.2 will be extremely counterproductive and will most definitely cause delays in our deliverables, which we would love to avoid.

Is anyone out there working in a similar environment with CC 2014, and how is it working for you?

      Thanks!

      Dave O'

          Hi Dave,

Do you use any third party plug-ins? Make sure they are updated for Premiere Pro CC 2014.

Did you check permissions on all the Adobe folders?: Re: New Mac Pro major issue's with Premiere CC 14

Make sure they are all set to Read/Write

Hope others with a similar installation can chime in with their advice.

          Thanks,
          Kevin

            Hi Dave

You may or may not realise that the CC2014 update is actually an entirely new standalone version of Premiere CC Suite.

This is important for you to understand  in that it allows you to keep all your current work in the current version...and do your own cautious testing in CC2014.

I have nothing like your set up and workflow but I have basically kept work I started in CC  still in CC.

I have done some "tests" by opening them in CC2014 and that has worked fine too.  The original project is opened as a new version which one manages as one wishes.

ie in my system I have always h kept my "PROJECT" Folders in a folder that identifies the Premiere version.  eg 'Premiere 6.5 Projects'  /  'Premiere7 Projects' /  'Premiere 8 -2014 Projects'     All thes version co exist fine on my system.  DO NOT DELETE any application versions

FWIW - Premiere CC2014 requires you to basically re set up your preferences/ options, shortcuts, hardware  etc.  Thats how separate it is.

              Kevin,

Thank you for chiming in, yes, we do use 3rd party plugins and generally keep those updated regularly, and I also make regular permissions repairs on all machines, especially with the added security restrictions of Windows 7.

I'd like to make certain all systems are stable and functional within CC 2014 and fully compatible with all of our equipment before we update. The 7.2.1 version forced us into buying two new machines months before anticipated as it rendered the AMD Graphics cards useless.

I look forward to other users with a similar environment giving feedback on the latest release.

              Thank you!

                shooternz,

Thank you for your great suggestions and workflow tips! When I updated the one machine to 2014, the CC (7) version on that machine did not stay.  I had to revert to 7.0, then update to 7.2.2 in order to get back to that version, then had to uninstall 2014 because it would not allow me to open projects on anything but the 2014 version.

Hoping for a smooth transition to the update.

                Thank you!

I will just point out that my update experience has been fine but I am on a Windows PC.

Your mileage may differ on Macs.  Good luck.

FWIW - I never have the "issues" that many others have anyway.

                    Cheers!

Would still love to hear from other users with a similar system!

                    Thanks!
