John T Smith Jul 24, 2014 12:02 PM (in response to jlew2kx)Your second is similar to the one I am building i7-4930 Computer Parts List and 2 Questions
See the comment and my change AWAY from Samsung EVO drive... for boot, the Samsung 840 PRO is better

Bill Gehrke Jul 24, 2014 12:48 PM (in response to John T Smith)I will echo John's comments get rid of the Samsung EVO and instead go with the 840 PRO or the Crucial M550.
If you are serious about building for 4K you should go with the hex-core and the 4GB video card.
Actually if you wait about 60 days there will be a whole new generation of Haswell-E chips with X99 motherboards which will possibly cause that CPU to be reduced in price or offer you a much faster hex-core or even a new 8-core CPU (for more money of course). Of course the new X99/Hasewell-E combo will have a longer life-cycle investment

jlew2kx Jul 24, 2014 1:14 PM (in response to Bill Gehrke)Thank y'all for the quick responses. I originally chose the EVOs over spending a little extra on the PROs because from the little research I did on them, I thought most people were saying there's not a ridiculously noticeable performance difference. However, if you all think the PROs are necessary I will go with those.
Regardless of whether or not I choose build 1 or build 2, would a 128gb SSD suffice for OS and Programs?
60 days seems so close, but yet at the same time, SOOO long haha. My current Laptop from 4 years ago is falling apart and really struggling with my current projects, so I was I hoping to build this soon. I don't really envision shooting 4k within the next 12 months, but maybe after that. Would it be smart to just go with the first build and maybe a year or so from now upgrade a few things?

Probably... I use 70Gig for Win7 Pro and Master Collection and MS Office Pro and "misc" programs and files
You will need to set your temporary files to a different drive, as described in Drive C space http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1007934?tstart=0

7. Re: My First PC Build for Video Editing
JFPhoton Jul 27, 2014 12:18 PM (in response to jlew2kx).....be advised....the NEWEST version of PPro, 2014 CCloud, has HUGE performance improvements over ALL previous versions and already is FLYING on my Haswell laptop. I have been waiting to build a Haswell E desktop this fall. For most powerful machine then, go with 8 core CPU, 64 GB memory, 780ti ,or better GPU, and all SSD storage. Use all new Samsung 850 Pro zeries drives. As the new chipset will allow 10 SSDs to be connected to main board...all at SATA III....different RAID arrangements can be considered.
