1. Re: indd 8.0 file won't open on 8.0.1 inDesign
Willi Adelberger Jul 31, 2014 9:02 AM (in response to yasas96)Do you use InDesign 8, which is CS6?
What is exactly the message you get?

2. Re: indd 8.0 file won't open on 8.0.1 inDesign
yasas96 Jul 31, 2014 9:24 AM (in response to Willi Adelberger)Yes it's CS6, 8.0.1 according to the Help>about
The message is 'Cannot open because it was saved with a newer version of Adobe InDesign (CS8.0). You must use that version or later to open the file.' -

4. Re: indd 8.0 file won't open on 8.0.1 inDesign
P Spier Jul 31, 2014 10:02 AM (in response to yasas96)You are the second user today with that exact error message, and apparently the version number is incorrect and the file was really saved in version 9 or 10 (CC or CC 2014, respectively) and you're going to need to have it sent to you as .idml or a CS6 document (users of CC and later can also install CS6).

5. Re: indd 8.0 file won't open on 8.0.1 inDesign
BobLevine Jul 31, 2014 10:07 AM (in response to P Spier)It’s accurate and inaccurate at the same time. It says CS8, not version 8. There’s obviously some underlying code that translates version numbers to what would have been Creative Suite versions so instead of saying CC2014 it says CS8.
I believe this is fixed in CC which will tell you it was created in CC2014.

6. Re: indd 8.0 file won't open on 8.0.1 inDesign
Willi Adelberger Jul 31, 2014 10:12 AM (in response to yasas96)You are confusing your version CS6 version 8 with Version 10 which was planned before to be CS8 but is now CC2014.
Either you have to upgrade to the Creative Cloud and will be able to open every file or you should ask the person who gave you the file to save as IDML but you should be aware that the file will change.

7. Re: indd 8.0 file won't open on 8.0.1 inDesign
yasas96 Jul 31, 2014 10:16 AM (in response to Salah Fadlabi)That option is turned off.

8. Re: indd 8.0 file won't open on 8.0.1 inDesign
Willi Adelberger Jul 31, 2014 10:19 AM (in response to yasas96)This update will not help to open the file, but would help to get accurate error massages. But you should always install updates when they become available. There is no reason to turn it off.
