building WebHelp with RH x5 on WinXP Pro SP2:

I've removed MS Word from the list of editors for my project. When I run the Multi-file Find/Replace tool and choose Edit, the file still opens in Word instead of Dreamweaver. I actually edited a file in Word once, and it took an hour to clean up all the crap. Why are these files opening in Word and how can I stop it? Please and thanks!

If the list of HTML editors in IE does not include what you want, follow this link.

Look inside the file at the meta tags. I think you might find one that indicates Word is the editor. Remove that and try again.

I think it is safe but take a copy of the project first.

Is Dreamweaver set as the default editor in the HTML editors tab?

There are no references to Word in the meta tags, and the default editor is RH wizziwig! I have edited some of these topics in Dreamweaver and imported them back into the project, but they don't seem to remember that they've been there before.

1. Highlight Dreamweaver in the list of HTML editors
If DW isn't displayed click the Add button and browse for the location of Dreamweaver.exe

2. With Dreamweaver selected, click the Set as Default button.
Dreamweaver is now the default editor.

I tried that. It causes DW to open as the file editor for regular authoring, which is not the problem.
The problem occurs when I run the Multi-file Find & Replace, then try to edit the topic instead of using the canned replacement text. I want the file to open either in DW or RH (or ANYTHING except Word) so that I can edit the surrounding text and not just the 'found' text.

Thanks all. I think this is just one more thing in RH that doesn't work as expected.

This cropped up a few months back I believe. Do some searching. Post back how you get on and perhaps tomorrow I can help track it down.

Try looking at Internet Explorer options and see what is defined there as the HTML editor. My guess is it is Word. Change to one of the other options.

You could use Dreamweaver's Find and Replace instead RH's. It's got a lot of options.

Changing the default editor in IE did the trick. IE isn't even the default browser, so I can't understand why it would matter. Just more of MS deciding for us how we should work.

Thanks, everyone, for your help!
