Some shared review comments don't appear in PDF, but XML file folder and Tracker show them

Good Afternoon,  I am having about the same issue, noticed it mid last week (5-28-14).  As with you I have been running shared review for the last 3+ years without any issue (hundreds of them as well).  My tracker will show that they have been commented on, when I open the document I see where they used there stamp however all I see is a box with a X in it.  If I go back to their actual computer and reopen the review the stamp is no where to be found however if you close the .pdf it asks you to publish or delete a comment (even though nothing was touched).  I also found that anyone using adobe Standard or Pro can comment without any issue and that reviewers that use reader can publish any comment that is not a stamp.

As with you we have made no changes to our server that could cause this issue.

Are you, too, using the most recent version(s) of Acrobat/Reader? Version 10.1.10 or 11.0.7?

I am currently using Acrobat 9 Pro,  After further investigation I found that when a review is created in 9 pro only other 9 pro users can stamp the document and have it show up.  High pro version can not properly stamp the 9 Pro Version as well.  Reviews created in 11 pro could not be stamped by the lower versions.

At this point we have opted for using the Typewriter function as a work around as it seems to be ok across all versions of software.  Any help on getting the stamps functioning would be appreciated.

In Acrobat 9 if you right click you toolbar and one of the options is Typewriter, I do not know if this is the same in the newer versions of the software.

Just found this patch. Haven't installed yet. At least Adobe is acknowledging the problem.

Stamps don't appear in a Shared Review PDF

I have the same problem. The patch doesn't fix it.

Having same issue with just comments, no stamps.

Any update?  Running Acrobat XI.  Shows 385 comments in Tracker, but when I open the shared review .PDF it lists a total of 326 on comment tab.

UPDATE:  I think I figured out the problem (at least that I'm having).  The tracker is tracking "replies" as a comment.  BUT inside the PDF it only tracks new comments or when a comment tool is used.  If I reply to an existing comment and publish, the tracker goes up 1 in count, but PDF does not.  If I add a new comment, the PDF immediately goes up 1 in count.  Tracker follows suit when new comment is published. 

Would be ideal if the PDF tracked replies too to line up those counts AND it would be nice if the tracker distinguished between a reviewer's comments and replies.  Instead of just "new/total".  Overall, this is a nice tool for collaboration, but I think some added muscle would be nice when it comes to sorting, categorizing and follow up on comments.  Like the ability to create buckets or put a comment in a specific reviewer's bucket for follow-up.

We have noticed the issue in 11.0.0.7, and the fix seemed to help for some, but not all...

Some reviewers have upgraded to 11.0.0.8, the issue remains, stamps regularly are applied, but not visible...

We've tried to apply the 11.0.0.7 fix and of course, as expected, the issue remains...

Frustrating, but the only working fix to-date is to instruct reviewers to both stamp and include a comment alongside the stamp....

Simply and sadly, you should not rely on the existence or visibility of stamps in Adobe reviews...

Sorry to hear some users cannot see stamps.

The 11.0.08 update does not include a fix for this issue; it is a security-only update.

The individual fix (whose web page is noted above ) must be applied over 11.0.07 to remedy the issue.

I don't know that the fix will work properly if applied over 11.0.08.

Can you describe the details of a user who still cannot see stamps?

Is it the user's own stamps that cannot be seen? Or the stamps of other users? Both?

I'm at a loss as to why the fix is not working for all users who applied it over 11.0.07.

I have some suggestions, some of which you have probably already tried.

My first suggestion is to ask a user who cannot see stamps (and has now applied the fix over 11.0.07) to add a new comment to the review document and Publish the comment. Next, ask another reviewer to add or delete a comment from the review and publish it. Then have the (problem) user click "Check for new comments."

That may be enough to force a re-check of all comments using the updated code.

If that doesn't work, you may need to force a reset of the user's participation in reviews.

There are two files/folders you can delete to force a re-load.

I recommend moving them to a new locations, checking the behavior, and moving them back if the changes are not desired.

BEWARE that after deleting the following files/folders, the user's settings and history for Shared Reviews will be deleted.

1) the user will have to rejoin any Shared Reviews currently in progress.

2) The tracker will be cleared.

To do the above:

1. End the AdobeCollabSync.exe process.
2. Go to the following folder: C:\Users\<userid>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Acrobat\11.0\Collab
3. Remove the two files there: CollabPrefsSyncData and Workflows
4. Delete (move to a new location) the following folder: C:\Users\<userid>\AppData\LocalLow\Adobe\Acrobat\11.0\Synchronizer

I recommend the above process be used with caution.

11.0.07 and 10.1.10 had a bug in which dynamic and custom stamps were not correctly added.

Applying the patch did not make them visible.  The error was made when the stamp was added, not when viewed.

Upgrading to any later version will allow future added stamps to be visible, but I've not been able to find any way to resurect the exiting ones.
