Automatically Updating Flash Player in Corporate Environment

Has anyone enabled automatic updates of Flash Player in corporate environment?

For a few smaller sites, with limited bandwidth, there is some older versions of Flash Player installed.  To bring these systems up to date (& fix some security issues) we're discussing enabling the automatic updating of Flash Player & Reader.

Do Flash Player updates require a reboot, or can it be suppressed?

Is the "Allow Adobe to install updates (recommended) option global across all installed Adobe products (AIR, Flash Player, Reader & Shockwave) or can it be enabled on product by product basis?

Has anyone tried this and what are their experiences (Good/Bad)?

While I can't respond to your question on Enterprise customer's experience deploying Flash Player, or which method they prefer, I can respond to you other questions.

• Do Flash Player updates require a reboot, or can it be suppressed?
  • It depends on the update type used.  On Windows, the Update Notification dialog window displays after a reboot, or log off/log on.  This is the 'Notify me of Updates' option you see when installing Flash Player and selecting the update option.  If you select a different update mechanism, a reboot, or log off/on, is not required.
  • Several update mechanisms are available for Enterprise customers.  These are outlined in Chapter 3 of the Adobe Flash Player Administration Guide for Flash Player 14 | Adobe Developer Connection.  The blog post, An outline of Flash Runtime installation options,also provides information on various installation methods.

  • This is not a global setting for all products.  This particular setting is specific to Flash Player. Please post your product-specific questions to the appropriate product forum:
