Install crashs at 81 per cent

I use Mac OS 10.9.4 and Safari 7.0.6 or Opera 23. I tried to update flash player [to last 14] as required by mac but it crashed at 81% [during installation]: "general error" and stop. So... I went to the problems of install pages and followed the instructions, including uninstall the older version of the player. But nothind worked. Finally, I get no flash player installed [because I uninstalled it] and I can't install a new one... no way, it crashs at around 81%. Tried install_flash_player_14_osx_pkg as adviced but it doesn't recognize my system: say that OS 10.6 to 10.9 required ! And I use 10.9.4, with intel core 2.9 ghz, 8 gb of ram... it should be enough. Don't use any anti-virus, tried to disconnect firewall... everything.

Please tell me anything. I'm hung without flash player plugin and can't find the way to install another one, even older [13, 14... same problem of install]. Thanks.

Finally done. I had to reinstall the Mac OS [OS X 10.9.4]. There was the problem... I don't know where but there it was. And Adobe Flash Player reinstalled and updated with no problem.

So thank you everybody and Maria specially. Bye bye.

Hi Sansan,

What's the link you downloaded the .pkg installer from?  I was able to install Flash Player, using the .PKG installer on OS X 10.9.4 with no error.

Thank you.

Maria. I've got an answer in the apple forum : How to perform a "clean install" of Flash Player in Mac OS X. But there's something I don't understand. In there, "Maria Vargas" [may be yourself] say: when reboot, "Make sure the 'Reopen windows when logging back in' check-box is NOT selected (This will "kill" all running processes)". What is it? May you explain it? Thanks.

Hi Sansan,

Did you try installing using the APP installer, instead of just extracting the PKG from the APP installer?  You don't specify if you did this or not, just that you used the PKG installer.

The older version is blocked by Apple, not by Adobe.  Can you please provide the following two log files:

  • /Users/<YourUserID>/Library/Logs/FlashPlayerInstallManager.log
  • /private/var/log/install.log

You can use Finder to get to these, or the Console app (/Applications/Utilities/Console.

The files will most likely be too large to post here in a comment.  Please provide them using instructions here How to share a document.

Regarding the post from the apple forums, I don't post there, but someone could have copied and pasted my comments from here over there.  On a Mac system, to make things easier (or not, depends on your opinion) OS X will automatically restart windows that were open before a shutdown/restart.  You can configure OS X to not restart the Windows.  The 'clean install' instructions have a step to restart the machine before proceeding with the installation.  This is to ensure apps that may use Flash Player are not open when you start the installation.  However, if you have your Mac configured to re-open windows upon logging back in, it defeats the purpose of restarting the machine (to close all apps).  The dialog I refer to is the following:

Hi Maria.

First, thanks for the reboot tip.

Then, the pkg. I've tried to install the pkg... 1) Extracting the pkg fron the adobe installer [install_flash_player_osx.dmg] and launch it from the mac installer [the default system installer]. Noway. 2) I've found –I don't remember where but it was an adobe page– this "install_flash_player_14_osx_pkg.dmg" and tried to run it through the mac installer and same problem, noway [I join some images] : I can translate [my system works in spanish]... "Adobe Flash Player can't be installed in this disc. The system doesn't meet the minimum requirements for installation. Mac OS X 10.6 or over required."

And here is when I turn crazy... My system is 10.9.4, with intel core 2.9 ghz, 8 gb of ram... I guess that's enough requirements.

install-pkg.png os-specs.png

Second. I've tried again a "Clean Install"... 1) uninstall. 2) verify in Library that plugin and other folders aren't there. 3) Reboot unchecking that "reopen windows...". 4) Run the installer before doing anything else... And noway. It still doesn't work.

So... many thanks for all. I will try to provide you the log files. Meanwhile, be sure that I'm sincerely grateful with you. Thanks again.

Hi again, Maria. I've send you a message, here through your adobe profile, with the acrobat cloud link where you're supposed to find the install logs you asked for. I hope it works. Thanks for all.

Hi Maria.

I hope not to be too boring [I apologize if so]. I'm not a specialist [far from it... you should have understood] but cheching the logs files you've asked for, I've seen that: "Cannot install on volume / because it is disabled". So... may be a system problem? Should I reinstall the OS upgrade [10.9.4]? Should I fix some "permissions" or some stuff alike? Searching on google [because of discouraging] I've seen that [Cannot install on volume / because it is disabled] can be caused by a conflict of "receipts"... Should I clean any receipt? All of them?

Still grateful, Sansan.

Hi Sansan,

Sorry for not responding sooner.

Please go to \System\Library\CoreServices\SystemVersion.plist file.  Open the file in TextEditor.  What does it have for ProductVersion?

In the same location, can you check to see if there is a ServerVersion.plist file?  If so, is your system a server?

Did you upgrade your machine from 10.6.8 directly to 10.9, or from some other version?

Hi Maria,

Here is the text of the SystemVersion.plist file:

<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

<plist version="1.0">

<dict>

  <key>ProductBuildVersion</key>

  <string>13E28</string>

  <key>ProductCopyright</key>

  <string>1983-2014 Apple Inc.</string>

  <key>ProductName</key>

  <string>Mac OS X</string>

  <key>ProductUserVisibleVersion</key>

  <string>10.9.4</string>

  <key>ProductVersion</key>

  <string>10.9.4</string>

</dict>

</plist>

And no, there is no  ServerVersion.plist file. My system is not [supposed to be] a server.

I upgraded from the just previous system [don't remember which one exactly... I guess 10.9.3] : I always upgrade the OS as soon as apple propose it... I've upgraded many months ago from 10.8 to 10.9 and there was no problem with flash player. The problem appeared a week ago when the OS aimed to upgrade to the last player.

Sansan.

I've finally found an old plugin [version 10] in a saveguard disk i have. I could update it to version 11.8.800.168 but no further. Updating this version crashs too. So now I have this version installed... that car works but with problems [blocked because of "not secure"]. May be an OS problem. I'm trying to find solution in the apple support forum too.
