I have not tried this, but the System Requirements apparently support using Windows 7. I think the database used is the critical piece in terms of handling connections and "traffic". The default Access database is really for testing and configuration (although some have found it OK for low traffic). For production, a "real" DB is recommended (MS SQL, Oracle, etc.) That said, a test environment could be set up fairly easily so you could try it out.
Be sure to look at this doc carefully when configuring the DB and the "64 vs. 32-bitness" of the OS and DB combinations.

IMHO, because you are setting this up for customer-facing, I would go with a more robust environment.
