I am using RH11, Merged Help, WebHelp.

Search in WebHelp works very slowly compared to modern engines.

How to optimize or speed up search? Thank you in advance.

That is another way of offering search but I am not seeing any speed issues with the built in Rh search. Is the delay very noticeable or just not quite as snappy as you would like?

How many topics in the merge? (Approx)

There are around 100 merged projecs in WebHelp.

One search takes from 9 to 25 seconds. The speed is unacceptable for our customers.

100 projects is a high number but there is no known maximum.

Are these delays only when published to a server or do they also occur when you view the generated version? Generation should always be to the same drive as the project. With this number of projects I think I would have the projects local rather than on a server.

It could be worth checking that all the projects have the same default language. I realise that is a pain but I have seen it cause problems.

The difficulty in saying whether ZoomSearch would improve things is the free version is limited to the number of topics it will handle.

The delay occurs during work with the generated version.

All projects have the same language.

Search speed in *.chm is acceptable.

We need the same speed in WebHelp.

Please confirm the generated version is being generated to a local drive and viewed from there?

You said earlier that one search takes from 9 to 25 seconds. Is that "one" in the sense of a specific search or just any single search?

Because this is an unusual issue, there's nothing to draw on for ideas.

Have you checked meticulously that all the child projects have been generated?

Have they all been generated since the parent was last updated?

Hi there

One possible thought that you might consider trying would be to adjust the settings for "speed optimization". I have no clue if it will help, but it might be worth trying. As with anything, trade-offs are involved.

To adjust this, you edit the Single Source Layout properties. Click Navigation in the left panel, then choose "Local PC or Intranet".

For the test, you will likely need to make this change for ALL projects involved and re-generate each of them. Then test.

Cheers... Rick

When you create an output there are two stages, generate and publish. Generating should be done to a local folder and publishing goes to the server. What I am wanting you to do is check the generated help performance. Maybe the issue is the server and looking at the generated help may highlight that if it performs better.

Search speed in WebHelp has always been slow, but now it does not suit our customers.

I am searching solution for issue.

>Please confirm the generated version is being generated to a local drive and viewed from there?

We use local server for publishing help.

Help system is available in local net for all users in company.

>Have you checked meticulously that all the child projects have been generated?

Yes, with success result.

>Have they all been generated since the parent was last updated?

All projects are published every night.

What difference between "specific search" and "single search"?
