Turn off font preview in PS CC 2014?

I'm attempting to troubleshoot performance issues with Photoshop and one thing I am seeing in Adobe's FAQs is that I should be able to turn off font previews in the preferences in the Type preference panel. However, I am not seeing that option. Has this been removed or moved elsewhere in PS CC 2014 or is it no longer considered a relevant performance tweak... or is something wrong with my install? My version of Photoshop is 2014.1.0 / 20140730.r.148 x64

Running on Mac OS X 10.9.4

      iMac 3.5GHz i7, 32GB RAM, 6TB RAID 0, 1TB startup SSD

PS. The issue I am actually troubleshooting (if anyone reading this has any insight) is that large doc sizes (~100MB) with many layers (both vector and type) have become largely unusable as minor edits such as resizing or moving a layer results in beachball for upwards of 20-30 seconds with the Console reporting that Photoshop has been "caught burning CPU!" (exclamation point is Apple's, not mine). Anyway, sounds naughty. Hardware tests have come up empty so I am revisiting my otherwise unchanged settings to see if I can fix the issues.

Thanks in advance for any advice or thoughts!
